Her name is Marionetta but her friends call her Marion, the name her parents gave her. Her parents died a few years after they had brought her and her baby brother Hope to a remote  mountain village. They came seeking refuge from the outside world and found it. They repaid the villagers' kindness by protecting the village and it's people from threats.

     During a blizzard, several years after their parents had died, a large group of bandits came and raided the village where they lived for supplies. The bandits chased them from their home and out into the cold where they were left to die. She was twelve at and her little brother Hope was only seven. Shortly after being chased out, they got lost and separated in the blizzard while trying to find shelter.

     While looking for her brother, she fell down once and struggled to get back up. Eventually she managed to get back up on her feet but she failed to realize she had left her body behind. Not long after that, she came across a cave made entirely of translucent blue ice. She went in and found her brother still alive and shivering but he didn't have much time left. He cried out for her and she rushed over to him to try and comfort him only to have her hands and arms pass right through him. It was then that she realized she was already and could no longer help him. 

     She watched helplessly as his calls got weaker and knew there was nothing she could do to ease his suffering. She didn't move and stayed by his side until he breathed his last and the last glimmer of life faded from his eyes. Cursing the bandits and no longer able to bear the sight of her dead brother, she wandered further into the cave in emotionally charged trance.

     She wandered for a while like this until she tripped and fell on top of something hard a sharp. The pain snapped her out of her trance and she rolled off of the offending object. Confused by what could possibly hurt a ghost, she sat up and look over to what she had fallen on. It a large shard of blue-black ice with razor sharp edges. Seeing it as a possible tool for revenge and fearful that she may pass through it like she had with her brother, she cautiously reached out and touched with a finger.
