Homers’ Thoughts:
Have you ever just stood next to the ocean, feet dipped into the warm sand, salt water on your face, waves dancing through your fingers, trying to drag you little by little into the abyss.
Well! I have. In fact, I have never felt anything more joyful in the world than this. I wonder.... is it because of my weird sense of joy that most people call me strange? Or is it my lack of m…..
“HOOOOMERRR. Get away from the waves? HOW MANY times must I say something for you to listen.”
Urgh, Miss. Towiester, I know, I know. I’ll go play with the sand so please stop screaming at me. Honestly, she is a good au pair.. looks after me well; but can be a bit anxious and clingy at times. Even though mom is casual about me playing outside, Miss. Towiester freaks out if I don't inform her of my whereabouts every five minutes. I would love for her to sometimes notice that I also have the power to think and avoid troubles.
I emptied a bucket of sand water next to my castle and tried to build something resembling a hill. I failed miserably. I was never good at building sandy stuff.
I went back to the shore and buried my feet deep in sand, unseen, forgotten. Drifting back in time. I remembered my birth. I know that I didn't know where I was. I just saw a couple of masked faces. looking down on me with worry. I also saw a kind one. Apparently, that was mom. I remember hearing her say, “he is gonna be alright! We'll look after him. Won't we Charles?" a hoarse voice replied, "we'll do our best hon. We are all he is got." I know it was weird to notice these things. To understand what they were talking about but at the same time not knowing who the "me" at their center of conversations was.
A month or two into the world, I got the hang of it. RULE#1: Try to use your voice-box whenever you need something, and everything will get resolved. RULE#2: refer back to rule #1.
I understood that I was born in a land filled with magic. Magic was at the core of everything. Depending on an individuals’ aura at birth, one was either determined to be a great magician or a poor being.
The strength of auras followed the color of a rainbow with Red having the lowest rank and violet the highest. Mine was a fading white. They didn’t even call it aura since it was barely visible. But I guess they just had to call it a color and fill that empty field on my birth certificate. Because of this color or rather “Non-Color”, I didn't have magic or at least couldn’t use it at all. Hence the creation of rule #1.
Apparently, I was the son of a third lord or something and was therefore born into nobility. Without magic, I would most likely be looked down upon in the future. Nobility would not be enough to cover this defect.
Just like how in some worlds race, religion or political segregation is the cause of all evil, in my world "ones' color" is what matters the most. Lower ranked aura holders are constantly being discriminated against. They rarely have the chance to climb the ladders and move onto the next socio-economic status. And even if by some miracle, they do move upward, they never get recognized as part of the “US” . They will always remain as “THEM”.
