Ave consciousness was first to realize that she wasn’t back at her makeshift home…
“Where… Am I” She thought to herself, trying to move, she felt… nothing...
The pitch darkness suddenly became white, piercing her eyes, forcing her to try and open her eyes.
“Well, well! It seems our li’l rookie is waking up!” Ryker sarcasm was smeared on thick; his voice though was a nearly in audible, as if listening to someone from underwater.
“Where…” Her voice cracked under the strain.
“Woah there… Don’t try to speak yet girl! I hur’cha pretty badly when I knocked ye out!” His accent was clearly not from around here… Is it really the same man that she fought? She wondered.
“Ryker, stop fooling around with acting, she’s sure to know who you are! Have you decided what to do about the girl?”
“Ay! She’ll be training under me guidance! Can’t have her trying that li’l stunt she did back in the arena!”
“You sure you shouldn’t be informing the Clans of her cursed blood?” The scrawny man queried.
“And let them take away the only thing exciting I’ve found in over twenty years? Hell no!” He balked at the idea of actually following protocol and law, as dictated between the clans! Telling them would have either the Swallows or the Shadow Clan hunting her down. And as he was born into the clan they would have him bring her to her execution himself…
“Our Dusk Clan’s Magic is more evil than what her fabled Blood magic is! Besides that being that blinded me when she released the spell was no demon, it was an Elemental. Same as the souls the Dusk Clan traps inside animals.” Ryker assured his friend.
“Still…”
“I’m not handing her over; she was way too much fun to play with! I’d love to see her actual fighting skills when she isn’t sorely relying on her Blood magic.” Ryker snickered at the idea.
“You honestly think she’ll be any good though? I mean she was trained as a mage not a warrior.”
“Nope her mother being that damned Royal Witch means there’s no way in hell her mother didn’t let her be trained by the other clans.” She listened in on them as they spoke about her. Trying to sit up drew their attention back to her again.
“I told ya not to move, girl!” He scolded her pushing her back down.
“Just get some rest and we’ll talk in the morning.” Ryker hand beneath her neck was so very warm, she felt him put pressure on one of her nerves and without her consent her body seemed to go numb again before darkness embraced her.
Morning came and with it Averisa woke up in bed… Wondering how she had gotten there she quickly got up. She was still in her clothes from before, and she remembered being knocked out… Waking? Yes she had awoken at one time in an office of sorts…
She thought back to how the king, Ryker, talked about the Clans as if he was a mage himself…
“See you’re awake! Get dressed!” Ryker barged in throwing some clothes in her arms before leaving as abruptly as he had come in.
Getting dressed she left the room still wondering where she was.
A maid gestured her into a direction when she noticed her just standing by the room’s door she had exited from. Heading down the hall she came to the staircase and once she was down she could hear voices talking about something in regards to training?
“Excellent! Our new trainee is finally up and awake! Haven’t had someone in forever to train!” Ryker smirked.
“Sir, not to interrupt, but you’ve never had a trainee under you!” The scrawny bet collector spoke up.
“Gerrard, you’re right interrupting! Now Averi Astral, or should I say Averisa LeBlanc, why is it you want to become an Adventurer?” He asked again never in want of an answer.
“Why do you keep asking rhetorical questions when you’ll just ignore my answers?”
“And how do you know I’m not interested.”
“Every person’s aura fluxuates either due to emotional, mental or physical demands; when lying or disinterested in something auras often break away from the body somewhere.”
“You can see auras?”
“Slightly, it’s like a hazy layer light around a person, it’s part of them and flows through and around them, it cannot affect anything they touch though, but mages are able to… But you should already know all this since you’re a mage yourself.” She said taking a seat by the table, as a maid laid out a plate for her and another brought out food.
“Nope, not a mage, born to the Dusk Clan, but not a mage; I’m the third born.” He corrected her.
“And not just any mages can see Aura’s those that do, are either of the Dusk or Moon Clan… But you’re not, you’re Dawn… Or should I say Twilight?”
“My father’s the fifth Elder of the Moon Clan’s Zhou Covent.” She informed him.
“I never thought the Royal Witch to break tradition and mate outside of Dawn.”
“So you really can’t use any magic? Unless you use your blood directly? When did you figure that nifty trick out?”
“When I was thirteen while practicing under a master swordsman in the Zephyr Dawn Clan. A spirit just appeared in front of me and it whispered to me a spell, I started practicing various phrases on my own after studying core fundamentals of elemental magic as well as healing and blessing spells. The spirits respond to my blood and the spells and command ‘magic’ for me.”
“Really nifty! And I was right you trained as a warrior as well!”
“Yes at Zephyr, Pyre and Orbital.”
“You can speak of Swallow with me as well, I’m of the Shadow Clan I’m fully aware of Dawn’s own assassins!” He said noting her shrink back.
“Relax! I’m not interested in giving you up to them, I’ve not had a thrill in years as I had fighting you! And the reason you’re here is due to the fact that though that was about your limit, and it was more like warm-up to me, is cause I feel you can entertain me some more. Once properly trained that is! But no more using your ‘Blood’ magic! Not until you’re well versed in mine!”
“But I thought you weren’t a Mage?”
“True I’m not but there’s a ‘magic’ if you want to call it anyone can use, though few ever are able to learn it.”
“You’re extreme speed and strength…” She remembered.
“Yes! Mages can only influence that around them through spells with their aura but those like you and me and really normal everyday people too have auras; though we can’t influence anything around us, except for you with your blood though it doesn’t count! We can allow our auras to influence us; it tires one out extremely fast, but as you better learn to control your aura and increase your aura capacity the better or longer you can sustain your heightened skills!” He grinned as if this ability outright surpassed all other magical abilities!
