As for the end image, from my own experience and knowledge, those structures are found in Japanese homes and are a type of shrine to show respect for loved ones that have died.
They are placed in a room in the house and usually have a picture of the dead family member, flowers, a bell to ring before paying respects and incense.
Disclaimer: There is probably a lot more to it but that's the basis of what I know about them.
