When Irene awoke the next day. She found herself lying in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room. Where am I? The sun was already at the edge of the horizon. Whether it was rising or setting, she couldn’t tell. “Uhg. My head hurts.” She complained, her head throbbing. What time is it?”
There was a yawn in the doorway. “It’s about 5:30 in the morning.” May said, releasing another yawn. “The only reason I know this is because I never sleep. You can come down and make yourself breakfast. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to try to get at least two hours of sleep.” She swung out of the door and flew down the hallway. Literally.
“I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that...” Irene muttered to herself, imagining May flying down the hall half asleep with nothing to hold her off the ground. “How does she do that anyway? I know she can’t fly.” She remembered the time when her friend had fallen off the top of a building and would have died had a bush not cushioned her fall.
She lay back down staring at the ceiling. That’s right, I’m at Ace and Drake’s place. She rubbed her eyes and reluctantly got up. Walking downstairs, she caught glimpses of something… some kind of shadow. But there was no source. She decided it was just her eyes playing tricks on her. She found her phone on the coffee table, unlocked it, and checked the time. Two DAYS!!?? She thought. I’ve been passed out for 2 DAYS! This throws back the schedule sooooo much!
There was a note next to her phone.
"Sorry, we went ahead with your plan while you were sleeping. Seriously though, you were in the back of a runaway car and you didn’t wake up. You need to take better care of yourself
May Caliber
Sis GET MORE SLEEP!!!"
Irene, still half asleep said, “YEA RIGHT! Because they let me sleep for two days I can't have any sleep at all!” But, because Irene was at the house and the others were going to pick up more people for the rest of the plan she thought, I can train. Learn more about my robotic army and program the robots more.
Meanwhile, May and the others were heading out of town to get Mary Luminous. May looking a little concern, Irene wasn’t answering. She repeatedly said, “Come on answer already!”
After twenty-five thousand tries she gave up. Heck, knowing her she’s probably doing something outlandish again. She sighed, sitting back in her seat. Memories and ideas kept popping up in her head, almost none related to their mission. Man, has my mind always been so random? She couldn’t help asking herself. I guess so. She looked out the window to the forests, so rare for their time period.
She closed her eyes and everything went blank. The next thing she knew she was being vaulted forward. Her eyes snapped open to the sight of shattered glass and blood on the seat in front of her. She was in total confusion. What’s going on!? Who’s blood is that? What happened to the others!? It took her a few seconds to grasp her situation, her mind whirling and the hearing faint call of military commands being issued at the edge of her conscience. All of the sudden her face started stinging and her nose felt like she had just inhaled water. That blood… it’s mine. She realized, looking around to see the car had flipped over. But where are the others?
A gunshot went off. The deep-voiced shouts of men followed. Her eyes widened. Oh crud, it’s the government. They must have caught on to us. She unbuckled herself, landing face first on the roof of shattered glass. Crawling out the broken window, May crouched on the side of the wrecked vehicle. She could tell by the distress in the men’s voices that they hadn’t found her friends yet. She didn’t bother waiting to hear what the men said but she heard something about world powers and death. My, my. I hope our Irene hasn’t started her world domination just yet.
She escaped into the woods as soundless as she possibly could while running with no sense of where she was going. The last thing she caught was, “Terrorist… Italy… killed” Definitely NOT Irene. She caught a whiff of Drake’s cologne. “Dang, that’s strong. It’s almost as bad as Kevin's was in Middle school.” She muttered, pinching her nose but still following the smell. Soon she heard soft mutterings, barely audible but still there. She crept closer, spotting a blur of color obviously not native to the forest. “Yo, Drake, that you?” She whispered.
“No, it’s a dinosaur dressed up like a squirrel.” A young male voice answered.
“Ok, I get it, Eric. Are all of you together?” She asked through the foliage.
She heard someone’s hair rustling. “No, we got split up. Ace isn’t with us.” Answered a deeper voice. It was Drake’s.
May broke through the leaves shaking her head. “How could you guys get split up? You’re like one entity.” She sighed. “What happened anyway? How’d the hover flip?”
“I don’t really know.” Drake shrugged. “We were just driving and then, BOOM, there was another hover up and under us.” He said, using his arms to illustrate what happened.
May turned her head back, whipping out her phone and dialing someone. “I think those guys back there were military dudes.” She put the phone up to her face. “Hello? Hello?”
“Who are you calling?” Asked Eric.
“Trying to get a hold of Ace. Not bothering with your sister, too stubborn to pick up the damn phone.” She dialed in something else. “Hey, you available?” A voice shouted something. “Yeah, well try this for a good reason, we’re stuck in the middle of nowhere with some kind of government agency strapped on our backs!” The shouts of men started getting closer and their unorganized shuffling painfully obvious. The person on the other side of the phone said something, calmer this time. May nodded her head. “Guys, we got a ride on our way.” She whispered to the two boys fidgeting next to her.
A voice came from the bushes behind them. “Hey, guys, over here.” The voice whispered. It was Ace. They crawled through the bushes, avoiding twigs and going through empty spaces to make as little noise as possible. Finally, they found a clearing. “I think we’re far away enough now.” Ace looked back, breathing heavily from holding his breath.
“We need to get to the rendezvous point. I called for transportation but we need to be there.” May said urgently, already jogging.
“Hey, who’d you call anyway?” Drake asked, catching up to her.
“Just an old friend.” She speed up.
