“So long to all of my friends”
He closed his eyes, leaning into the music. The soft guitar parts and the emotion-filled vocals leading him into almost a state of peace. But he couldn't be at peace, not so long as Finn was dead.
“Everyone of them met tragic ends”
It wasn't supposed to end this way. They were going to go to college and then get married, life was going to be a constant adventure.
"With every passing day”
It had only been a little while. Finn had been buried just a week ago, mourners who didn't care about him in life gathering to sing songs of praise, and to talk about how much they had loved him.
“I'd be lying if I didn't say”
To be honest, Finn had always lived on the edge. Danger had almost been a turn on for him, and people had been predicting his death for years.
“That I miss them all tonight”
Nothing like that really mattered though. It was too young and too fast. He had never been able to say goodbye to him.
“And if they only knew what I would say”
Love hadn't even covered the emotion between them. Every word fell short. People had also predicted that they would grow out of their love, but they never had the chance to be proven right or wrong.
“If I could be with you tonight”
If he could have one last night with Finn, all that he would do would be to hold him. Letting go would have been impossible
“I would sing you to sleep”
Tears slipped down his face. The gravestone had looked so sad, and the inscription on it had meant nothing. Religion had been a private joke to them, and Finn would have laughed at the grave, carved angels meaning nothing.
“Never let them take the light behind your eyes”
He knew that nothing could bring him back, but hoping is not the same as rational thought. They had been stars, before the crash.
