Computer-Eye Syndrome

Chapter Two

Chapter Two

Feb 15, 2018

While our roomies were at the store, Aicusa dropped and broke two jars. Which she had to clean up and pay for.

Can this day get any worse?

A couple of girls from the college Aicusa had gone to were at the store, and they had always teased her about Cole. No matter what she would tell them it was just non-stop teasing. At first, she didn’t recognize them. They had freshly dyed their hair bright pastel colors for who knows why. Their nails were painted black- Oooohhh I get it… Pastel goth/scene weirdos… I think. Something like that.

“Oh, look! It must be Cole… Aicusa’s boyfriend!” One of them retorted and giggled. Yep. Just got worse.

Cole did an amazing job at ignoring them, even grinning to himself every now and then as he occupied himself with looking at prices of items and their labels. Aicusa, on the other hand, was struggling with ignoring them. They always figured out how to get under her skin one way or another. She found them annoying in every way possible. From their obnoxiously high-pitched voices to the way they would use text-lingo in their speech. “Wait, no they’re not… They’re not eating each other’s faces…”

Shut up, shut up, already… She had gripped a box of off-brand “Pop-Tarts”, and she felt the box collapsing in on her grip. She picked it up and deposited it into the cart with a flat clang. She went to push the cart, but one of the girls had gripped it and held it in place. For their size, they were strong.

“Alright, alright. I think that’s enough.” Cole finally spoke up, and turned to the obnoxious beings, placing a box of cereal by the previous object. “You’re pissing her off.” Thank you, thank you, and thank you.

“O-m-g, Cole you’re just so handsome.” One of the girls said, and Aicusa instantly knew where this was going.

“Haha. Alright, Rachel. You can stop it now.” Aicusa spoke through gritted teeth, ready to just push the cart so hard that she hoped Rachel would fall and ruin her petty black nail polish. Extra points if her hair connected to the floor and got fouled. Then the other one, Summer, took it a step further and clasped to Cole’s arm, flirting with him in the adversest way.

“I bet all the girls orgasm just thinking about you.” Rachel just completely disregarded Aicusa’s warning and Cole only smirked...but he looked uncomfortable.

“Um...look!” Cole pointed off into the distance all the way across the store. “It’s...Taylor Lautner!”

“Really?!” And there went the girls who had no brain-cells. Thank god for movies like Twilight…

“Who the hell were they?” Cole looked at Aicusa, raising his eyebrow.

“Just some,” she adjusted her coat and her glasses so that the gleam of the lights would hide her eyes, “skanks from College. They never leave me alone. They tease me about you since they found out I texted you at lunch and you were the only contact… They were nice at first and then they got all bitchy. But that’s not the point…”

“Look, Aicusa… You can’t just let people know you’re pissed. Just do what I do. Ignore them. I know it’s easier said than done, but just… don’t let them get under your skin.” He gently rubbed her arm and smiled at her.

That smile… That damned smile. Gets me every damn time… Aicusa smiled back, and he gently ruffled her hair. Cole, she would say, is a fairly attractive man. He has his flaws, but that just adds to him being a great person. He was taller than her by about half a foot, so Aicusa would look way younger than he was.

Cole had bleached white hair, but he kept the color of his eyebrows and it kinda looked funny on him. His natural hair color was black, so he looked like a walking “Yin & Yang” symbol. Which wasn’t a bad thing. His eyes were one of the few rare eye colors. Not blue-they were Amber. Not to be confused with hazel, since hazel has blue and green, and Amber is just one color. Coles were a radiant yellow color, unlike any she had ever seen.

Except for contacts. But those don’t count since they falsify eye color.

Cole smirked a bit at her, and pulled his hand away, then grabbed the cart, standing behind directly behind her. She felt her face heat up and she began to walk, Cole keeping himself close, but not close enough to actually mess her up and cause her to trip. She could feel parts of his hoodie brisk against her back, however, and she shuddered every time.

By the time they were finished, it had been a little less than an hour, which was way more time than she wanted to take. When they got the groceries in the car and got in...she sped-safely-home.
