I stood with my circle of football friends while they talk about whoever the latest girl they banged was, they are so cliched. I don't pay attention as I stare curiously at Jackson who is drunkenly talking to some of the members of the Gay Straight Alliance. Usually during parties he's seated next to the food tables and alcohol, I don't think he's ever talked to someone from GSA.
Specifically, Michael - I believe that's his name - he goes to our rival school, Oak Hills High School, which is down the street from our school. Michael and his GSA club visits every now and then after school because Mrs. Clay liked the idea of a unified group for people of all sexualities. I wonder what Jackson is doing talking to them.
I approach Kurt who is talking to a group of girls, who probably like him and think they have a chance with him. Kurt sees me and waves, "Question," I say while approaching, "You're in GSA, right?"
"Yeah, I'm the straightest of straight," He chuckles jokingly, but the girls take it as a half-joke, which means they still think he's straight. Kurt is as straight as a rainbow. "Why?"
"Is Jackson?"
"No, why?" Kurt looks at me as if I was an alien, the idea of Jackson talking to people who aren't already in his circle of friends is pretty bizarre as it is. Everyone knows how secretive and quiet Jackson can get whenever he doesn't have a familiar face near him, which raises the question as to why he is talking to Michael.
He isn't completely drunk, Jackson is a cry baby when he is. Maybe he is trying to make new friends, that'd be nice, but doubt it. Jackson doesn't like new people. After a few more minutes of thinking it over I shrug before I notice Veronica and Troy walk in, hand in hand.
Surprised I stare at the pair as they are super out of place, typically girls would over dress with short dresses and heels, Veronica is wearing jeans and a sweater. Veronica isn't usually one to do anything fancy with her hair or face, but I notice she has a bit of lip gloss on with he hair curled from it's usual straight line. To top it all off she has has a golden - probably fake gold - shark tooth earrings.
Guys typically wear shorts and tee shirts, Troy is wearing skinny jeans and a black band hoodie. His hair was clipped back with a black hair pin so you could see his face, usually it was a curly jungle that covered his forehead.
Both have very similar clothing styles.
That isn't what I should be focusing on, but the two stand out like sore thumbs. I've never noticed it before, but the two don't even look like a real couple. They look so much like a celebrity couple that it doesn't seem real, the two of them separately have every average looks, but together they look like models. I don't understand.
They both glow together, like a magic force is pushing them towards one another, maybe it's because they're soul mates. Whatever the case may be, the two look great together, no denying it.
The pair stood there for a few extra seconds, Veronica didn't look at all uncomfortable, in fact she looked kind of excited. This was her first party - though she's been invited to many more. Troy on the other hand looks as though he'd rather be anywhere else but here. After awhile Veronica makes eye contact with me, visibly scoffs, then drags Troy somewhere else.
I roll my eyes before turning back towards my friends who talk about something I don't care enough about. Honestly it's probably something cliche like sex or football, I wouldn't put it past them. They are the type of people to. Soon the most beautiful girl comes into view and I smile without even thinking about it.
Jenna looks around at all the people with a slight smile on her face, her short shiny red dress dazzles in the dimmed foyer. The extra shining red and purple lights that the other's always bring to parties being the only source of light. Being that it's close to midnight nearly no light shines through the windows.
The nice bright full moon and the very dim stars being the only things visible outside. Living so close to a major city is no fun.
I make my way towards her as my friends laugh and cheer me on, which I simply roll my eyes to. She sees me, quickly forces a frown, but it doesn't stay and a smile takes over. She looks down to the table of food in front of her and she picks up a small chip.
"You of all people should know how unsanitary party food can get," I chuckle when I finally get to her. She looks down in horror at it before quickly putting it back.
"I haven't eaten all day, I am so hungry."
"Why haven't you?" I ask, confused. This Mansion is huge, I don't see how she her maids and chefs could allow her to go unfed. They should probably get fired for that, now that I think about it.
She groans before picking up her phone from the table - her long red nails clicking against the sides. "I have been getting ready for the party," She puts it simply with a slight yawn.
I sigh, "How tired are you? I know you've been excited for this party, but if you are tired you shouldn't force it."
"I'm not too tired...just a little. I'll pull through! I always d...is that Joy?!" She snaps pushing me out of the way to reveal the front door to her house. There stood in front of the large brown doorway was two couple. One being Joy and Jared the other being Veronica and Troy.
Veronica welcomed the other pair very cheerfully as always, Joy looked over her with for a second before turning away and leaving her. Jared bowed slightly as an apology to Veronica before following his girlfriend.
Veronica just stood there for for a few seconds, afterwards she looked up to Troy with teary eyes before the pair both simultaneously ran after her. That was that. No one else paid attention to it, no one cared enough. Way stranger things happen at parties all the time, this simple interaction has no one watching to see how it plays out.
Jenna and I are not among the ones who do not care, we both instantly turn to each other before following them into the other room. The other room was just as noisy and messy as the one before, but with a few less people. Looking around again we notice that Troy and Jared are talking in front of a closet door.
It's hard to notice the very comfortable looking chair propped up against the doorknob. I guess Troy and Jared locked the two girls inside to talk, probably at Veronica's request. They do need to talk things out more. We all do, really.
Jenna and I approach them and quickly assert our presence into the conversation, "Where is she?" Jenna asks although probably already knowing the answer.
Without a word the two point to the closet door and to no one's real surprise Jenna pushes the chair aside and enters. We quickly move the chair back into place afterwards to make sure that Joy doesn't try and escape.
We all stood there awkwardly for a few minutes. All we could hear was the music blaring all around us and then the occasional scream from an excited girl when their song comes on. The whole party scene didn't seem like a good place for either Troy nor Veronica, but for whatever reason the both were still here. Dealing with the ever evolving drama that is our lives.
It's just a surprise that Jessica didn't show up here. That'd be a whole other nightmare I do not want to have to deal with. Ever.
That being said after one more minute if standing around I head into the main room again. I might as well get the two of us water. When she comes out she'll either be crying or have a dry mouth from talking. It's for the best. As I make my way to the table of food I grab two water bottles.
Just as I do another hand grabs two others, I look up to see Troy. He scoffs as the two of us make eye contact. What a prick. He heads back into the other room as I glare at his back. God he is such a jerk. He couldn't even say hi. That's why his only friend is Veronica. I reluctantly follow him into the other room.
The walk was silent. As silent as a party could get that is. The two of us barely spared each other a glance, so a conversation was out of the question. Then a certain blonde attacked me with an over excited hug.
"Max! Where have you been?" The male asks a tiny bit drunkenly.
"Jackson, stop," I groan while pushing his face away from mine. I swear, I'm surrounded by idiots.
The male chuckles before stiffening as he sees the gray haired male. Troy - who is staring at the two of us - snorts before turning and continuing the walk. That prick. I scoff to myself before glaring at Jackson and following Troy the rest of the way. I hate the both of them.
If the walk before wasn't awkward enough it's twice ad much now. It felt like my skin was being scratched at by tiny little invisible demons. It's was u settling. I finally open my mouth to speak when Troy suddenly stops about five feet from the closet door. I accidentally run into his back, which i respond my take a step back afterwards.
"What the Hell, man?" I growl, but dont make any effort to move around him. He probably has something to say and if you think I'd run from this are you're dead wrong.
"Max," Troy says in a strangely soothing voice. Something I've never heard and never wanted to hear.
"Yeah?" I question a tiny bit skeptical, but still try to keep my usual emotionless face.
"I want to talk about Veronica," He says turning to me. "I understand you are probably annoyed with how much I focus on her, but I can't help that. I love her that that's all. Anyway, I want you to make up with her."
"And why should I?"
"Because Jessica is back," Troy snaps angrily, but I see the sadness he is trying his best not to show. "Veronica is in actual danger and of you want to be her friend for another thirteen years then you need to help her. If not then... just do it please. She can't soley rely on me. I know how unhealthy that is, so just do it."
We have a small moment of silence, maybe about four to seven seconds before he begins talking once again. "Jessica really hasn't been taking the fact we're dating too well. She's really angry and everyone I see her she growls and walks away. I really don't think Veronica is s-"
"Fine," I interrupt. "It's cool, I'll talk to V. She's probably still mad, but I'll try to not make things worse for once."
"Thank you, she really needs more people to rely on." He sighs out before walking back towards the closet. That's probably the most I've ever seen him care or show anything but arrogance. It wasn't half bad actually.
