"Won't either of you help her bare the price?" He asked them. Again, they both shook their heads at him in a 'no'.
"Very well then," he said as returned his attention to me.
He swept me off my feet and into his arms before I could get a good look at his face and carried me like a bride up the steps to the altar. He set me down on the altar and I ended up sitting on the edge of it, staring at his chest. Afterwards, he gently brushed some of my hair that had fallen across my face before putting his hands on my shoulders. His hands were large and long fingered and felt strong and heavy on my shoulders but he grasped them lightly like I was some kind of precious delicate prize he was afraid of crushing. I looked up at him at him with and odd look and saw that his face had changed in the few moments since I last saw it.
It was still somewhat handsome but his pale blue eyes had changed into bright yellow ones with slit pupils. The sincere worry I had seen in them earlier, was still there but now it was sharply tainted with hunger. I could also see the tips of many long, sharp, narrow teeth poking out from between his lips where there had been none before. These changes were small and few but they were enough to send me over my tipping point I and began to tremble in his hands in fear.
"If I'm going to-' he began before cutting himself when he notice me shaking in his hands. Realizing something was wrong, he pulled me close and wrapped me up in a big bear hug in order to comfort me.
"Shhh, it's going to be okay now," he whispered into my ear while he held me and began to rub my back.
The monsters and demons that were always hunting us. Our parents, who had died protecting us while the three of us ran and hid. Failing to protect my two sisters who were all I had left and was now powerless to save. Even my two so called allies who were never around when I needed them most. It was all to much to bare and I just couldn't take it anymore.
Tears began to fall from my eyes and I stared to sob into his shirt. In his arms, even though I was a grown woman, I felt like a little kid again with my dad holding me as I cried. My whole body shook from my sobbing and he just stood there, holding me without complaint while my tears and snot soaked into what was probably his only shirt. He held and comforted me for what seemed like an eternity before my tears finally came to a stop.
"Do you feel better now? He asked me. I nodded my response into his chest and hugged him in thanks for trying to comfort me.
