Chapter 11
“So the hallways are easy to navigate for somebody like me. To reach Hayden’s room we must take a left up here, then 2 rights and another left.” Emma huffed as they were nearing an intersection.
“Got it! 2 lefts and 2 rights. Simple enough.” Ethan responded, carrying a lantern he found.
They reached the intersection, taking a break to catch their breath.
Tired, Ethan takes Emma by the hand again and lightly jogs down the shadowy hallway.
The light of the lantern flickers as they move.
Unexpectedly, Ethan halts, surveying the length of the hallway.
“Emma, how long in feet is this hallway?” he asks, attempting to measure with his glistening green claws.
Huffing, she replies “ About 10 feet across. Why?”
“Hm. Hang on.” He whispers to himself. He quickly spins around, holding Emma’s wrist and twirling her around until he has her entwined in his tail, his beautiful different colored eyes gleaming at her.
“Would you like to fly with me?” He asks, an innocent look on his face.
She blushes before abruptly nodding.
“Good. Let’s go!” He says as he places his claws on her shoulder, spins her around, and hugs her by the waist.
“Alright, I can’t hear all that well while we fly so you can either yell or point, your choice!” Ethan chuckles as he unfolds his midnight black wings.
“ Um, Ok! She replies as she wraps her arm around his back, linking up with her other wrist.
“I have never had a girl hug me like This Before…” He chuckles, rewarded with a well-deserved slap in the face.
“No time for jokes! We have to get moving! We only have 7 minutes to find Alexander!”
“Fine, Fine. you’re the boss or whatever. You can hit me again if I’m going too fast.” he responds as he leaps into the air, gently flapping his wings to avoid knocking into anything.
They zoomed down the hall, turning at every point, until, finally, stopping a few feet away from their stop.
“Dahm, this place is hard to navigate!” Ethan groans as he stretches his arms and back, folding his wings against his jacket.
Emma dusted herself off, still shaking from the adrenaline.
“Well it isn’t for someone like me, you would have heard me say that if you were listening!” She scowled at him, answered by silence.
She turns to glance at him in confusion, only to find him hanging from one of the many bars of support beams protruding from the wall by his tail, almost looking frightened.
“Ethan, get down here! We can’t afford to waste time like this! Quit cowering up there!” she says sternly. “Just to be sure. He doesn’t know that you guys untied me. Now, go quickly!” he insists, refusing to come down like a young child.
Emma rolls her eyes before backing up, then proceeds to run forward and kick the door down, breaking it altogether.
Ethan scoffs and folds his arms, looking a bit light headed.
“Yup i’m coming down. This hurts my head and my tail is getting splinters.” He says quietly as he jumps down and lands silently on his hands and feet.
Emma charges inside the room, silent as a mouse. Ethan tags in behind her, not giving a care about noise.
She suddenly stops, surveying the scene.
Alexander was nowhere to be seen in the empty room.
