He's not ours, Luc whispered.
Invaders, I growled. It took mere seconds before our mindlink was flooded with the anxious words of others in our packs.
Lucifer, Pierre, you are both the closest. Reach the intruder before he runs. Oliver, Finn, run the ground to see if there are any others. So far, it seems like there is only one of them. The deep, unforgettable voice of Lucifer's father, the Alpha, ran shivers down my spine, and I acknowledged his words with another howl. Luc sneered at the Alpha's voice, but both of us still followed his orders, heading towards the stag. It took seconds, at the speed that we were running at, for us to reach the intruder. He stank of disability, but yet, he brought forth the face of Eragon Saxum. There were answering snarls, yips and growls at that image.
We skidded into the clearing, where just minutes ago, was a grazing herd of reindeer. I could feel Lucifer seething fury at the sight. We expected a sickly, ugly rogue, feeding on our catch. Instead, in front of us, was a startling white wolf, licking one of the fawns that I had spared earlier on. He seemed oblivious to our presence as he tried to calm the shivering, baby fawn with his warm tongue and affectionate whines.
Luc launched himself at the wolf, who was thrown backwards. There was a crack as the baby fawn snapped into half at the impact, a little, mangled shape that flew into the bushes. The white wolf yowled in shock, scrabbling at the ground to pull himself out from under Lucifer's body. It was clear that he was weak. Possibly an Omega doing Eragon's dirty work.
Luc tore at his flesh, making the wolf scream. The ear-shattering sound was silenced when Luc pulled him up by his scruff, turning and displaying the Omega to our gathering pack. Insults were thrown at the pathetic wolf, who cowered at the sight of our warriors.
There is no one else, came Oliver's report.
Just the Omega then, I replied.
Lucifer dragged the wolf back, across the wet, frosted ground, into our camp.
This is the disfigured intruder, Luc sneered, giving the wolf a little kick. What should we do with him?
Take him into the cells, the Alpha nodded. Interrogate him until he spills his purpose. Two invasions in a week. What are the odds?
This one's from Celestial Fang. He reeks of their treacherous ways, Lucifer insisted. He needs a beating.
There were grunts of agreement. After a second, the Alpha sighed and nodded. Do as my son says, he ordered the guards. Luc relaxed when his father gave him, ignoring the fact that the Alpha had just addressed him as his son.
I flanked Luc, dragging the wolf to the dungeons, where the guards took over, sitting the boy on the cold, hard stone floor, and forcing him to turn into his human form, by shocking him with a stun gun. His screams echoed through the underground tunnels, and he convulsed on the floor, curling up and shaking as the fur on his body retracted, revealing a pale skin, blonde haired boy, who couldn't be any younger than us.
I pushed Luc's shoulder with my snout, and we left the guards to their work. We retrieved our clothes, turning back to our human selves.
"I heard what happened," came Ivory's voice, breathless from running. "Are you both okay?"
"Yeah, it was just an Omega. Probably wandered from his camp." I answered.
"It's a Celestial Fang, Rubeus. I don't see how it could "wander off". Omegas can't simply walk out of their camps," Lucifer reminded me.
I shrugged. "We'll find out tomorrow, when he breaks under those brutes in the dungeons. Meanwhile, I'm going to get cleaned up and get some sleep. It'll be a long day tomorrow when we meet up with Eragon."
"Same here," Ivory said, as she walked off, surprisingly quickly. If any of us noticed anything off about Ivory, we didn't say a word about it.
We were too caught up in our thoughts about the next encounter we would have with Eragon Saxum of Celestial Fang.
