An essay (from fr. experience, trial, attempt, sketch, essay) is a short scientific written work in which the student must reveal a narrow problematic issue. The difference between the essay and other scientific works is the brevity of the presentation of the material on the proposed topic. The essay should include a self-conducted analysis of the problem using analytical tools considered within the discipline, and conclusions that summarize the author's position.
