Hey Hansel - I have to know, how did you get so good at watercolors? Did you start from real life or just jump right into comics? Great job, exciting to read There Will Always Be Dragons! I'm a big fan of It's a Hard Life too!
Thanks! I've been using watercolour on and off for about 10 years, though I didn't really take many active steps to get better at it, until recently that is. I still think I have a lot to learn. Anyway, I've done very little watercolours from real life. Perhaps I should, but whenever I do, I tend to overwork my things and get too faithful to realistic colours and it often ends up a dull mess (much to my tutor's disappointment). I do a lot of drawing from real life though. Not sure if any of this is a good answer. Lots of practice and studying of other watercolour paintings and illustrations I guess? And not be afraid to start over and do studies (I should take this advice myself). Watercolours can be so unforgiving and it's so easy to overwork them.
Thank you so much for the wonderful response! I am trying to draw from life now and then at cafes, but it's a steep learning curve! Anyway, keep up the awesome work! :)
