Hi! I'm Kat! I'm a nonbinary illustrator and graphic designer based in Canada. I'm hoping to create lots of stories like the ones I love. My current projects are based in the horror genre, but I hope to share some fantasy comics in the future.(they/them)
Thank you for getting Hadal State over 100 subscribers!
When I started posting comics online, I didn't expect even 10, 20, or 30 people would read them. So, I was kind of blown away when I checked in to see I had gone from 80 to 124 subscribers a week after I posted the last update!!
I've been busy with beefing up my portfolio, but seeing the love for Hadal State makes me excited to start working on comics again. Look forward to the next update soon!
Sorry for the inconsistencies in updates for Hadal State. Commission work has been a priority for me as they are my only source of income. As always, if you're ever interested in getting a commission from me, there's info on my Instagram (@KatsinSpats) or my Twitter (same @ as my Insta). I've also had a recent family emergency come up, so that takes up a lot of mental energy as well. I'm hoping to get back to work on the comic soon!
Hadal State is always on my mind, I just need to find the time and energy to work on it! The good thing about me not actively working on pages is I've had time to go over and improve the comic's writing to make it better than before!
I'm going to update the comic description to include some TWs; if it wasn't obvious before, the comic does deal with depression and alludes to suicide ideation. There's nothing explicit of course, but anyone knowing anything about diving should know that solo dives are a no-no for a reason.
ANYWAYS, I thank all of you who have stuck around for your patience! I hope to get some more Hadal State to you soon. After the (eventual) completion of this comic, you can expect some shorter horror comics (Like, The Smoking Lady length. Probably nothing longer than 5-6 pages). After that, who knows? I'm always thinking up new ideas for stories!
Most of my comic projects focus on horror, but I do have a lot of fantasy story concepts I should do something with as well. Actually, my plan was to start my journey into comics with a ~80 page fantasy story I wrote in college! Maybe you'll see that one day...
Regardless, I hope you enjoy whatever I create next. Thanks again for sticking around!
Oh wow!! 😳 Welcome, new subscribers! It's so strange to get notifications that more folks have subscribed considering I've been inactive for almost two months. How did you even find me??
Sorry for those of you who I've kept waiting! It's been a strange time these past couple of months. One minute I'm focusing on commissions and the BLM movement, the next thing I know time has sped past me and it's two months later...
I'm almost ready to start the line art phase of the next batch of pages for Hadal State; it's going to take me some time to get back into the swing of things, but I promise more is coming!
In the meantime, if you'd like, you can find more of my artwork at @KatsInSpats on Instagram and Twitter! I also have commissions open for both my own financial support and for donations to BLM/Indigenous organizations. If you're interested, all the info is on my Instagram!
Thank you for enjoying my work! I'll see you again soon.
Oh, The Smoking Lady got featured in the "News and Noteworthy" section on Tapas home page... XoB
That's from where I came... XoD
Love me some spooky stories... XoB
Hello, and thank you, to those who have read my comic, The Smoking Lady! I'm currently working on my next comic, Hadal State. Hadal State will be much longer than The Smoking Lady. It is also the first (I think) proper comic-format original story I'm posting online!
Hadal State is a story of a lonely marine biologist named Luma going on a deep dive in the ocean by herself. This story will also feature some whimsical horror elements; I never considered myself much of a horror artist/writer, but I lot of my recent work seems to go in that category!!
I plan on posting Hadal State in chunks of ~3-6 pages. There will be 5-6 parts in total. I don't have a set posting schedule, but I'll do my best to update as soon as I have pages completed.
I'd also like to post The Deep Wood, a comic (though it's more of a storybook format, really...) I did for Inktober 2019 here as well! I just need to edit the art (digitizing traditional art is always a pain) and figure out how I want to organize it for Tapas. I might wait to post that until Hadal State is finished, but keep an eye out nonetheless!
I'll leave you with an (uncoloured) preview of Hadal State. I look forward to sharing more stories with you!
