There was not a war, but a ruling - there are too many people in this world.

     As we have tried to fix society, the population has grown too large, too hungry, too corrupt. The resources are almost used up completely, people no longer see the best in one another. The left over graces of the world had saved society; the international leaders agreed that if every household only has one child, then we would diminish numbers enough to prosper as we did in the past. All second children were prohibited to exist since the day it was agreed upon, and whoever disobeyed would never see their child again.

     The blaring pessimism dimmed as the population decreased and the environment flourished. After decreasing in the millions after more than 80 years, the world seemed to be beautiful once more. Cities were still in place, bustling with the most activity, but world had decreased from 7 billion to 4.5 billion people, bringing rise to a new social order with courtesans at the top.

     “Why courtesans? Aren’t they supposed to be prostitutes?” No, rather, they are a pretty employee of choice that you pay to have a good time.

     Females had made up half of the population before the ruling, but as the years progressed, the count dwindled to 5 men for every 1 woman at random. Ladies had become desirable, their traits appreciated as beautiful flowers, and were allowed to be picky with whoever they kept in their company. Discrimination had become a thing of the past and a fresh generation of prized children became the new wave of professional courtesans. Anyone is able to make money off of their spent time, as well as hold a steady day job.

     With this new generation came the creation of the “courtesan crown” system: a constantly updated, professional database that keeps track of all funds and customers compounded by any internationally-employed courtesan. The number of customers and price per hour are listed, mandatorily, on a courtesan’s synopsis before hire, but they do not have to disclose their accumulated dollar amount. As with all hierarchy systems, the “courtesan crown” is manned by the female sector’s highest earner (the “queen”) and the complementary male sector’s highest earner (the “king”).

     In hindsight, not much of the contemporary life has changed. The one exception is that nights have become full of grandeur and official parties held by various courtesan clubs, showing off their beautiful people and riches as those who are curious come flocking to the establishments. Money has become easy to earn if you use it well, and the night scene is all one luxurious affair  held by the paid monarchy.
