Residing in a small Brezhnev-era apartment in Western Russia, the Aksyonov family live in an urban, industrial metropolis of the Soviet Union. They are a family of humble means, comprising of an ex-model turned factory worker, a low-level construction engineer, and a young child; within the confines of the USSR, their life together often leaves much to be desired. On a good day, there is a meal for everyone.

Young Konstantin Aksyonov is the poster-boy for all respectable Soviet youths: intellectual, athletic and stoic.
Yet, these traits make him the perfect candidate for a covert programme: a facility intended to bring out the worst in its subjects, and create powerful leaders unmoved by morality. Konstantin’s unspoken darkness, repressed for the majority of his childhood, now rises to the surface – and manifests in truly unique ways.
