Koshei's life of being continually summoned and enslaved to one fanatical cult after another suddenly changes when the latest summoning is interrupted by Daniel and his fellow mages. Daniel is killed, but Koshei snatches her chance at freedom. In return for his help, she resurrects Daniel.
Daniel wakes up to discover the worst has happened: he's dead. Or rather, UN-dead. Worse yet, he can't remember anything that has happened. Koshei agrees to help him in return for tracking down the cult, but it soon becomes clear their task won't be as easy as it seems.
An old enemy starts working against the peace between the city districts, they must learn to trust each other or being killed (again) will be the least of their worries.
