This had been Min-Jun’s plan since he was little, he found himself fantasizing about singing and dancing next to his close friends in a stadium of cheering fans. It was easy to say this wasn’t how he expected to get there though. He sat in a small white room filled with other boys anywhere in between 15 to 21 years old, most of them either singing or staring at a piece of paper intensely. Min pulled out his phone and pretended to swipe through something interesting. He already knew all the lyrics to “kill this love” and he was way too nervous to sing in front of everyone else even if no one was paying attention to him. There was one person who seemed to sing better than the rest, he was tall and had dark hair, full-on k-pop idol potential. The small room was filled with potential and Min-Jun’s anxiety was slowly eating him but he was pulled out of his trance when a short girl with curly hair came out of the audition room and called out “Park Min-Jun?” Min stood up and followed her into the other room.

In the other small room stood a man in a suit, Min assumed it was the producer, a tall guy stood next to him. He looked tired, like everyone was a disappointment. The man in the suit turned to the tall guy and introduced him, “This is our lead vocalist, Kim Kyungmin.” Kyungmin smiled and offered Min his hand. “H-hello, I’m-” the short woman cut him off “it doesn't matter unless you get in, can you sing?” “Um yeah, I think so.” “Okay then...SING!” The woman, Suit man, and Kyungmin sat behind a table and watched Min expectantly. Min-Jun took a deep breath then opened his mouth and started the intro Kill This Love by BLACKPINK. Min closed his eyes, half because he was too nervous to watch the judges and half because he just really loved the song.

As the song came to a close Min-Jun looked at the “judges” and bit his lip nervously. Kyungmin smiled brightly and applauded him then looked at the short woman, “I like him! Can we use him?” “Kyung! We have more people to go through!” “Oh..” Kyungmin turned back to Min “We’ll call you back!” “No promises!” The woman scolded, mostly to Kim then Min. Min-Jun smiled and bowed then left to sit in the other room again.

Eventually, everyone had had their go and the short woman came out again. She held a piece of paper and looked around the room with cold critiquing eyes. She looked back at her paper then back at the crowd, the room was silent. “You can all leave EXCEPT FOR Lee Nam-Li and… Park Min-Jun.” Everyone sighed and groaned as they left except for Min-jun and the talented dark-haired boy from before, Nam-Li was his name, were left in the room with the short woman. The short woman seemed like she just finished arguing with someone and her pointed look to Min made him think it was over him. “Okay you two, The producer and Kyung can’t decide between you guys so you will be having an impromptu call back. Do you both know Life Goes On by BTS?” They both nodded and the woman nodded back. “Well, come back in I guess.”

When they were all in the room panic started to sink in and Min-Jun tried his hardest to stay calm. Kyung walked in front of the table and smiled at them both, “Okay so you both originally sang super poppy songs so I chose a more chill song for you to try out. Nam-Li will go then Min-Jun, do your best!” Min and Nam-Li both nodded and he started to sing his song. Min was blown away and nerves ate at him again. Lee finished up and it was Min’s turn. He took a deep breath and began to sing and he tried to convey how much he wanted this, how hard he had tried and worked to get here and he just hoped and prayed it came through.

As his song came to an end Min looked up and was met with Kyungmin beaming at him and the short woman having to close her open mouth. “I think we have a winner!!!” Kyung cheered happily and the short woman sighed but nodded. The short woman walked up to the two contesters and put her hands on her hips. “Okay, you both did extremely well and you both have star qualities but our winner issssss,” she held out that last syllable to add to suspense “-sssss PARK MIN-JUN!!” Kyungmin woo-ed from the back. Nam-Li grunted and kicked the ground then stormed out. “Wow, what a grumpy guy, that would’ve been a problem,” Kyung said and stood next to the short woman.

“Anyywayssss, Let me reintroduce myself since we will be band-mates. I’m Kyungmin, you can call me Kyung but please don’t call me Kim, it makes me feel old” He laughed and smiled again. Kyungmin turned to the short woman and introduced her, “ This grumpy lady is Nari! Since you're new you have to call her by her surname (Ms.Choi) but she’ll warm up to you soon!” “Hey! Shush! I’m not grumpy!” She said hitting his arm. Kyung apologized and smiled at her then pointed his thumb over at the suit man, “That’s our producer, Mr.Jin. He looks mean and scary but he’s actually super nice!” Min-Jun couldn’t help but smile, his dream was so close and everyone seemed so nice and together so far. “Hello! I’m Park Min-Jun, you can call me Min-Jun or even just Min if you would like. It’s so great to meet you and I can’t wait to work with you all!” Kyung smiled brightly (he sure did smile a lot) “Same! I can’t wait to work together!!”

Min-Jun went home with a huge smile on his face so excited for next time when he could finally meet everyone else.
