America, 1983- a fringe city, wielding the name "Ambition," is a battleground involving crime syndicates, extremist political organizations, and the oppressive police force known as the Guard. All the while, Soviet spies await their chance to claim the city for themselves.

This short story collection follows Róisín, an ambitious hitwoman with unusual motives, and Sonya, a Soviet soldier whose only sense of purpose is to serve her country. Meanwhile, the Guard terrorizes civilians and criminals alike; all bets are off if it means controlling the city.

Róisín, Sonya, and the Guard... They all proclaim, as martyrs of Ambition, that this bloodied city shall be theirs.
