We're gonna start with bones first, with the exception of the head (because we're doing that second semester).

So, the very first two vertebrae are very important and have their own special names (C1 is the atlas and C2 is the axis). These two relatively small bones allow the head to move from side to side.

Special anatomical position terms:
Anterior: front
Posterior: back
Inferior: lower/down
Superior: higher/up
Lateral: away from the middle of the body
Medial: toward the middle of the body
