A long hallway
Full of dread or excitement
Many beating hearts
And we are equal.
Some ostracized
Some paralyzed
Feelings minimized
Bad habits generalized
What has this world come to?
Why can't I, we, be equal to you?
There's no straight answer.
Many rooms
Some are nightmares
Some are dreams
Some are not important at all.
Some hittin(g)
Some stricken
Some missin(g)
Some sittin(g)
What has this world come to?
Why can't I, we, be equal to you?
There's no straight answer.
A huge room
Full of bodies
But not always warm
It can be cold.
Some nice
Some with hearts of ice
Some Don't think twice
That when they hurt someone there is a price
What has this world come to?
Why can't I, we, be equal to you?
There's no straight answer.
Blood runs through our veins
When we're pained enough we scream
We laugh, we cry, we hurt
We love, we hate, and we fall.
Some searching
Some hurting
Some yearning
Some learning
What has this world come to?
Why can't I, we, be equal to you?
There's no straight answer.
It starts young
Scars are made
That open again and again
Right until the end
Some calling
Some stalling
Some mauling
Most falling
I know what this world's come to
I'm living through it
One of the few that back up and take a look
Because we know you can't judge a book
By its cover.
I've been a hater
I've been a lover
I look at myself
But I also look at others
My eyes are open and I see
How things are
And how they could be
I hope
I dream
I fear
I scream
I cry
I laugh
I am my own first
And my last.
Other people do not define me.
Peer pressure is left behind me.
I accept myself for who I am,
You know your hurtful words are left behind me.
This world is causing its own destruction
We think we're not equal that's why we're under construction.
There's a straight answer.
It's written on your heart
An imprint on your soul
It tortures your mind
It controls your life.
See this generation?
I'm currently in class at high school
Writing this
Even though I shouldn't have to
But it weighs on my mind
In writing this I can find
Some solace at the thought
Maybe I'm not the only one feeling this way
This is what I have to say
In high school.
