[BL] Late Bloomer

Prolog

Prolog

Jul 08, 2026

Late Bloomer—a delayed manifestation of one's secondary gender. People who spent their entire lives believing they were betas suddenly had to face the truth when they awakened as Late Bloomers.

Gama was a young man with an exceptionally beautiful face. Everyone assumed he was an omega, but since he had never released any pheromones, they eventually concluded he was probably a beta.

Turns out... they were wrong.

On his eighteenth birthday, while living in the dormitory, something strange happened to his body. To everyone's surprise, Gama awakened as an alpha.

To be fair, his personality had always been more fitting for an alpha. It was only his delicate features that made people mistake him for a feisty omega.

His pheromones were anything but ordinary. They carried a refreshing aquatic scent, like the crisp air after a summer rain. Those who preferred fruity fragrances often compared it to the sweetness of fresh melon.

Then again, perhaps it wasn't surprising that he smelled like the sea—after all, he was born under Pisces.

Though despite being born under the sign of the fish, Gama was the embodiment of a bear.

So don't expect him to turn into a mermaid.

****
Tera had always been a rather cold person. Everyone assumed he was nothing more than an introverted beta. Strangely, though, he changed a little every year. The boy once known for his icy demeanor gradually became brighter, more energetic, and smiled far more often.

Little by little, he even started showing his adorable side.

When Tera discovered he was a Late Bloomer, his family wasn't surprised in the slightest to learn that he was a dominant omega. His face had been giving it away all along.

The only thing that didn't match his appearance was his sharp tongue.

His pheromones carried the scent of chamomile—not the aster flower, but true chamomile. The fragrance was soothing, like a warm cup of chamomile tea. And if you wanted to imagine its taste, think of biting into a crisp apple.

He was the very embodiment of a tiny squirrel.

A greedy little squirrel, at that.

****
Sky was the family's greatest surprise—the only rare enigma ever born into a rabbit lineage, a family known for producing omegas.

He often fooled alphas into believing he was an omega, thanks to his remarkable ability to suppress his pheromones. Like a king commanding a battlefield, Sky could manipulate the people around him with effortless ease.

He wasn't a Late Bloomer at all.

He simply pretended to be one.

A clever little scheme, all to win over someone incredibly deep in denial.

His pheromones carried the scent of musk, though he kept them hidden most of the time. It wasn't the synthetic kind found in perfumes, but genuine musk, rich and elegant, reminiscent of the natural fragrance once associated with musk deer. It was sensual, refined, and luxurious—enough to make anyone assume he came from a wealthy family.

---

Yan was the king of denial.

Everyone knew him because he came from a fox family. And everyone knew what foxes represented. Thanks to legends like the Kumiho, foxes were feared for being cunning, manipulative, and dangerous. No one wanted to get close to him, especially after learning he was a Late Bloomer.

He was a recessive omega.

But Yan didn't care.

He genuinely didn't.

He had spent his life as a thief. He admitted he was sly. He admitted he was a bad person.

He even admitted that he liked eating rabbits.

He embraced every accusation people threw at him.

Go ahead.

Hate him as much as you want.

He actually enjoyed looking like the villain.

His pheromones smelled faintly of citrus. The scent was so subtle that most people never even realized he had pheromones at all.

The fragrance was fresh and energetic.

That said, sharing a car with Yan on a long trip probably wasn't a great idea. If anyone could actually smell his pheromones, the overwhelming citrus scent might just make them carsick.

****

Hue—better known as Kai—was often mistaken for being adorable. Most people assumed he was a Late Bloomer, but the truth was much simpler.

He was, and had always been, a beta.

Despite that, he was surprisingly good at kissing—even if it was only for acting. And unlike most people, he never hesitated to hold someone's gaze.

The truth was, penguins were far more ferocious than they looked.

Cute on the outside, fierce on the inside.

That described Kai perfectly.

He was also a Leo. Honestly, he was more like a lion who had somehow been born into a family of penguins by mistake.

More than anything, Kai wished he were an alpha. He often wore sandalwood perfume to fool omegas into thinking he had alpha pheromones.

People always said betas belonged with other betas.

Kai couldn't care less.

He wanted an omega.

***"

[Invitation to All Late Bloomers]

[By government order, every Late Bloomer must be separated from the general public. They will be relocated to a small town exclusively for Late Bloomers, where they'll receive education, training, and even job opportunities.]

[The purpose of the relocation is to ensure Late Bloomers can safely learn to control their newly awakened secondary gender.]

A bus arrived at each Late Bloomer's home to pick them up.

"Tera, don't forget your money, okay? Mom's keeping your bankbook. Hey, spit that out! You can't stuff food in your mouth like that while you're in your human form."

His mother scolded him. Ever since awakening as a dominant omega, Tera had developed a habit of storing food in his cheeks. With a sigh, he took a tissue, spat the food into it, and handed it to his mother before she could get any angrier.

Both of his parents kissed him goodbye before he boarded the bus. His older sister loaded his suitcase first. The name Kay was written across the front—their family name.

A family of four.

Two parents, one older sister, and Tera, the youngest.

---

"I don't wanna go!" Gama shouted as he tried to run away when the bus arrived.

Fortunately—or unfortunately—his older brother caught him in a headlock and dragged him straight onto the bus. His backpack was tossed in after him.

His beloved guitar followed right behind it.

No hugs.

No kisses.

Nothing.

His parents actually preferred having him out of the house.

Too noisy.

The moment the bus doors closed, his entire family—including his older brother—started blowing party horns as if they were celebrating.

"You guys are dead when I get back!" Gama yelled through the closing door.

Still wearing nothing but a white tank top and a pair of track pants, he dropped into the nearest empty seat.

The young man beside him stared with his mouth hanging wide open, eyes round as boba pearls.

Gama lifted the guy's chin and casually pushed his mouth shut.

"What?"

"...You smell like armpits. Didn't you shower?"

Gama forced himself to smile.

Very, very forced.

---

"Is there really no other option?" Yan's mother asked.

Yan was their only child—and the only fox in the family. Letting him go wasn't easy for either of his parents.

"Whatever. I don't care. If they want me gone, then I'll go. Stop making such a big deal out of it," Yan snapped.

"But you're an omega. What if we just run away? We could move overseas."

"Why would we? I'm not a fugitive."

Dragging his suitcase behind him, Yan boarded the waiting bus.

His parents exchanged worried glances before letting out a long sigh.

A troublemaking omega like him was exactly the kind that kept parents awake at night.

"I'll find someone on the inside to report on Yan every day," his mother declared.

"Good idea," his father agreed.

As soon as Yan stepped onto the bus, he immediately started guessing everyone's secondary gender.

A boy in a yellow shirt was happily stuffing his cheeks with food. His clothes were neat, and his bangs were perfectly combed.

"Omega."

Then he spotted another guy beside him.

Casual clothes.

Hairy legs.

And...

"...Definitely smells like armpits."

"Alpha."

Yan took the seat behind them.

Someone was already sitting there—a tall young man wearing glasses, a face mask, and a neatly dressed sweater, quietly gazing out the window.

"A beta? What family are you from?" Yan asked.

"Rabbit."

The moment Yan heard that, he quickly covered his mouth to stop himself from drooling.

He discreetly sniffed the other's scent.

Nothing.

Definitely an omega.

If he ever turns into a rabbit... I'm pouncing on him.

Yan chuckled to himself.

Meanwhile, Sky simply turned his head away with a faint grin.

"Nice to meet you," he said without looking at Yan.

---

"I'm an alpha! Rawr!"

Kai shouted at the top of his lungs.

His little sister tried to stop him while his older sibling twisted his ear after catching him bringing an adult magazine onto the bus.

"Don't be like that, big brother!" little Hue cried.

"You're planning to knock up every omega there, aren't you?! Give me your phone! I'm deleting everything!"

Kissing videos.

More kissing videos.

Even more kissing videos.

This was becoming a serious problem.

Their father hurried over, confiscated Kai's tablet, snatched the magazine away, and sighed.

"Go there to learn something useful. You're not just a danger to everyone else—you seriously need to get that libido under control."

Every single thing Kai planned to bring was confiscated.

In the end...

He boarded the bus with nothing but himself.

Kai instantly transformed into a penguin and waddled onto the bus before his father could grab his phone. Once inside, he shifted back into his human form.

"WE'LL SEND YOUR CLOTHES LATER!" his father, Dev, shouted after him.

"Hey, beautiful."

Kai greeted Tera with an effortless smile.

"Oh... hi."

"Your radar's pretty obvious, even from a distance."

He walked over, nudged Gama aside without a word, then took Tera's hand and kissed the back of it.

"You can smell my scent, right? I'm an alpha."

"U-Um... yeah. I can smell it. Sandalwood..."

Tera answered hesitantly.

"And yours..."

Kai studied Tera's appearance.

Since he couldn't actually smell pheromones, he had to guess.

Tera looked fresh.

Bright.

Soft.

His eyes sparkled like tiny stars.

"Your clothes feel soft... You're a flower."

He said clothes, not scent.

Because Kai couldn't smell anything.

Luckily...

No one noticed.

"Yeah..."

Tera quietly leaned away from him.

Feeling uncomfortable watching the whole thing, Yan shoved both Gama and Kai aside before sitting next to Tera.

"My mom said it's dangerous to stay close to alphas. Didn't you know that?"

"No," Tera admitted honestly. "That's why I'm here—to learn."

Yan frowned.

Someone clearly had to protect this innocent omega.

He glanced back at Kai.

The guy really did look like one very hungry penguin.

They were never betas. Their story simply began later than everyone else's.
