"Translation notes": A lead-supporting side-character is a character in a story written for the sole purpose of supporting the main character. Basically all characters that aren't the main character or the antagonist are typically supporting characters. But there's often one lead-supporting character, like "the best friend" or "rival" (eg. Mushu from Mulan, Reg from Made in Abyss, etc.)
