Description
I never explored what "Black Light" means in truth, but it's meant to generally represent the themes I explore in this novel. Dark, damp, disheartening, soul-crushing, will-draining; a light source that blackens instead of revealing. And "Fluorescence" refers to how blood, together with luminol, lights up under UV light. 'Black light' is also an alternative name to UV light.
Essentially, I walk the reader through some bleak event the characters in the chapter experience, displaying their suffering and agony as blood spilled in a crime scene that has since gone cold and dry. I expose the themes I wish to explore with the black light, fluorescing the blood. The reason for fluorescence in particular is because I'm amazed at how luminol can interact with blood in such a way.
It is saddening that a tragedy occurred that spilled this blood, but I find it beautiful that we are able to analyse the consequences of pain, similarly to how we can dissect and study the behaviour of blood in a crime scene.
To put it simply, I think the grittiness and the bleakness of what I explore in BLF is precisely what makes it interesting to look at for me, just like blood under UV light.
