If the stars could speak
My soul would not be silent;
My hands would pound with rhythm,
My feet would reverberate across the Earth
And my eyes would spill galaxies.
My fingertips would bring lightning,
snapping across African savannas
Seedlings would sprout
around the shell of my ear,
And music would bruise my heart
If the stars could speak,
I would fill this world
With the melody purring
Through my veins
And ricocheting around my skull.
I would discover every
hidden corner in this world
and memorize each face of this earth.
I would count those stars,
As they sang,
far above my head.
I would teach my voice to swing high
and low
and teach my fingers to strum tunes
Stuck on the far outreaches of my consciousness.
If the stars could speak,
my essence,
My will
Would spark and glow and pop
against the velvet backdrop
Of Time and Space.
If the stars could speak,
oh, if they could
this world would be
ever so much brighter.
