Act 1
Heels clack repeatedly along the floor, conversations and mudders scatter the air. Wheels scrap the floor and people sit anxiously waiting to be flown across the globe to reunite with their loved ones. Amidst the crowds of people, a boy stands out. Dark brown spikey hair, clunky sunglasses that seem high tech, paler skin than most guys, and a big charming smirk on his face. The boy reaches into his pocket and pulls out his passport along with his plane ticket. It’s dated the sixth of July, 2024 from New York to Tokyo, Japan.
The boy then whispers to himself.
“My butt feels numb from the 14-hour flight but I’m finally home. The airport has changed a lot in six years though. Might be because the world always seems bigger as a kid.”
With a suitcase in hand and a gym bag on the shoulder, he strides to the pickup area outside the airport. On instinct, he reaches for his phone and opens a taxi service app. Suddenly, he feels something quickly run up his spine and rests itself on his shoulder. It licks his cheek and brushes its fur coat on his neck. The tail perks up and starts wiggling in front of his face, and a big grin starts to form on our main character’s face. He snatches the animal’s tail and tickles its stomach. This frolicking animal is his pet fennec fox.
“You little munchkin, thanks for the surprise, Yunyin!” He praises the fox.
Not much longer after finishing his sentence, he hears the sound of rapid clicks from heels and turns to see a woman jumping towards him. The fox jumps from his caretaker’s arms and lands on the ground gracefully. As for our protagonist, he can’t escape the clutches of his Aunt, Rinka. This tall beauty with orange ombre hair, styled in a swoop bang and messy bun in the back of her head. She dons a dress shirt with no sleeves, a blazer attached to it, and black slacks with gladiator heels. Almost reminiscent of a certain fighting game character.
“It’s great to see you too, Rinka. I’d be a bit happier if you weren’t digging your claws into me. But I guess it’s fine especially with your world-class grip strength.” He says as he gasps for air.
“Ah, you’re right I probably should let go by now but it’s been too long kiddo! My opponents and my family are the only victims I can hug like this.” Rinka says with tears in her eyes and putting more force.
The protagonist eventually mustered the strength to escape this brutal hug. Rinka applauds this feat and grins with pride, not in herself but for the protagonist.
“Alright, enough fooling around. Let’s head to where you’ll be staying.” Rinka says firmly.
She calls a taxi and sets the luggage into the trunk with the help of the driver. The taxi drives off after the GPS is set up and they board the highway.
Our setting takes place in several prefectures of Tokyo, Japan. Our protagonist will soon encapsulate his regular school affairs and pursuit of love as he maximizes on the pure adrenaline, the springtime of youth.
As he stares outside the window, viewing the electric cars and trucks bustle down the recharging highway, he channels out the constant chatter that is Rinka and the silent fangirling of the driver he focuses on the radio.
“Good Evening listeners, welcome back to GRIS, the greatest radio international station. We received word from our friends at the ETA or the Elaborate Transportation Association, that hoverboards and hover vehicles can become a possible step into the future as of next year, April 22nd, 2025. They plan on unveiling this in California, as skateboarding originated there in the 1950s. What an exciting next year we’ll have, huh?” One announcer states. His co-host interjects and says.
“We will be celebrating the 55th anniversary of Earth Day and World Peace Month. After a world forged by countless wars, the achievable title of utopian believed to only be fiction is now a reality. We thank you listeners for maintaining this unimaginable world and hope you join us in the next hour for an exclusive interview with-”
“Hey, kiddo! I know you weren’t listening to me since we entered the taxi, and it's understandable since I ramble pretty often. However, I can’t seem to wrap my head around the idea of you suddenly coming back near the end of this school term when summer break is gonna start soon. Does that mean you have to take finals or remedial classes over the summer?” Rinka questions as Yunyin scrunches up her face with his paws.
The protagonist adjusts the sunglasses that were on his head to his eyes, and smugly says.
“I figured you’d ask that. Due to my transcript and other factors, I wouldn't have to take any finals of any subject, Not only that but because of America’s school system, I've been on summer break for a few weeks now, meaning I have extended summers. Once I enter tomorrow, I don’t even have to worry about academics. I can enter as a transfer student and not show up for the next few days.”
“Ah... I taught you too well. As an adult and your guardian, I should scold you but as my understudy in cleverness, I’m proud. Welcome back Sport!” Rinka says as she holds back her tears.
The taxi pulls up to a small cube-shaped condo with bush hedges guarding the proximity. In the backyard, there’s a wide space assorted with activities and a toolshed.
As they get their bags from the trunk of the taxi, Yunyin hops out the car, and surveys the new house, stopping to mark his territory. Rinka begins to tip the driver however, he cuts her off and says.
“Bearin Embrace, it’s been an honor driving you to this establishment. Instead of a tip, can I get a photo for my daughter? She's a big fan.”
Rinka eyes the man and says.
“I’d love to take the photo, but two things are wrong here. I’m still gonna tip you. And you’re not being completely honest right now. I see something familiar under your button-up.”
The driver, surprised by her keen vision says.
“Looks like I can’t get anything passed your animal-like instincts. Yes, it is for me. I’m a super big fan!”
He rips off his button-up and twirls it in the air, his undershirt has an image of Rinka in a skin-tight outfit with bear fur laced into it, with gaps revealing skin. Rinka laughs and poses with her hyped fan. The driver thanks Rinka after showering with praise and leaves to pick up another customer. Rinka finally realizes she’s alone outside with no sight of the boy she has to take care of. She looks up at the balcony of the condo and sees the boy unpacking his luggage from the sliding window. She heads into the condo and takes a seat in the living room, props in a DVD of her wrestling to see where her weaknesses are.
While she does that, our protagonist ventures to the backyard and sees Yunyin near a white sandpit for Zen Gardening. Pushing a broom across the sand to make a pattern. The protagonist leaves his pet alone and heads over to the toolshed to check what’s inside. He takes inventory of the amount of sports equipment and notices a padded dummy seated next to two items, a Bokken and Kendo Shinai, two practice swords. Rinka walks in the toolshed and says
“The Grands didn’t know what sports you practice anymore so they just bought everything.”
The protagonist responds surprised.
“ Wait hold on, if Grandpapa and Granny paid for all this, doesn’t that mean they bought the whole place? If that’s the case, what about the money I gave you to pay for the place?”
Rinka unleashes a big sigh and says,
“Well, I was gonna pay for this place with the money you gave me but the price got a bit higher at the last moment. I didn’t mean to complain about it on the phone to your Gran Gran but she instantly told Grandpapa and they did all this. I was overjoyed and I hadn’t celebrated my last win so… I decided to splurge a bit while partying, and even got a new outfit for my duo team, Ungnyeo. Yunyin got sick not too long ago, so I covered that with the money too. I’m sorry for not telling you sooner.”
Yunyin rushes over and climbs on Rinka’s shoulder and presses her head down. Almost like he’s giving his apologies too.
The MC lets out a small sigh and lets out a chuckle.
“I suppose I couldn’t be too mad if that’s the reasoning. But for real, you shouldn’t splurge with other people's money. Based on the advance, I asked for… There should still be a decent chuck left, right? What did you do with that?” He questions.
Rinka starts sweating bullets, the amount of sweat even startles Yunyin. To abandon ship, he jumps over to the boy interrogating his caretaker and sets up a nest in the boy’s hood. Rinka runs away and jumps beyond the bushes. Where the boy sees a small apartment and its empty lot. The boy shaken by Rinka’s escape warns her of her behavior with a shout.
“Rinka! That’s private property, I won’t press you on the money. But don’t get fined for trespassing on property, please?”
Rinka runs up the stairs and begins hysterically laughing. She then says.
“The remaining money is still safe with me, but I did use some of it for this apartment! I’m staying here as your guardian for a while. I have some time before my next match so I’ll be here to keep you company and help you out. I’m gonna rest up for a bit so ease yourself into your apartment. You should rest up, especially with how you handle Jet Lag. Thing hits you like a truck.”
“Rinka, I know what you’re gonna say, don’t do it.” The boy says quickly.
“BERSERKER! DO YOU WANT TO MAKE A FREAKING BERSERKER!” Rinka says obnoxiously.
Suddenly, a few tenants open their doors at the same time and glares at Rinka. Rinka slowly opens her apartment door and apologizes. Excusing herself from the incident she just made.
The boy facepalms himself and raises his head toward the beaming sun. He slowly moves a finder to block the harsh sun and mutters to himself.
“It sure is pretty wacky when Rinka’s around but I’m really enjoying myself right now. Wish I had more money to spend but I’ll make it up tomorrow... Hopefully.
Yunyin leaves the hood and climbs on the boy’s head, ruffling his hair even more than before.
“Got the message buddy, I’ll go rest up and stop thinking.” The boy says as he heads upstairs to his room to take a nap.
Act 1 End.
