Somewhere in Arctic - 00:04
Four recon units are huddled on the top of an icy mountain.
“Overlord, this is Hunter One we’re oscar mike, over,” said one of them.
“Copy that Hunter One. See you at the LZ in thirty mikes for exfil. Good Luck,” said someone over the radio.
“Solid copy, Overlord. Over and out,” he looked at his three comrades, “You hear that Hunters? We’re half a klick to the package. Move fast and stay sharp. We don’t have much time.”
“I hope you’re ready for this Hunter Three,” said one of them.
“I am, sir. Always,” said Hunter Three.
“Don’t give too much pressure on the rookie, Happy,” said the other.
“Alright, boys. Cut the chatter,” said Hunter One.
As they arrive at a remote camp Hunter One signals to stop.
“That’s the target. Hunter Three, deploy the sensor,” Hunter One ordered.
“Deploying sensors,” said Hunter Three while tossing the sensor near one of the buildings in the camp. Upon the deployment of the sensor they’ve acquired the enemy positions around it.
“I see one hostile on the watchtower at eleven,” said Hunter Two.
“There’s two by the door,” said Hunter Four.
“I got one inside,” said Hunter Three.
“Get ready for sync shot, Hunters,” said Hunter one.
“Hey rookie you got a clean shot at the hostile inside?” asked Hunter Two.
“Affirmative, sir,” Hunter Three responded.
“Happy, we take the two by the door,” said Hunter One, “You take the right one.”
“On you,” Hunter Four responded.
They paused for a second aiming steadily at the enemies.
“I lost-” Hunter Three said as he was cut off by Hunter One’s signal.
“Fire.”
Three enemies dropped dead leaving one inside the building slightly alerted. Hunter Three rushed down their vantage point and ran to the building.
“Hunter Three what the hell are you-” exclaimed Hunter Four.
“Move!” said Hunter One as they rushed behind Three.
“He’s going for something,” said Hunter Three as he approaches the door.
As he went inside the enemy is holding a radio and looked at him. Before the enemy even moved and inch Hunter Three pulled his trigger. Two shots on the chest and one on the head. The guy dropped down.
“Target neutralized,” said Hunter Three with a relief.
“Nicely done,” said Hunter One.
“There’s two more at the back,” said Hunter Two as they walk around the first building.
“I see them from here, sir,” Hunter Three said still positioned inside the building.
“On me,” said Hunter Two.
Hunter One and Four readies themselves as they take cover at both sides of the building.
“Fire.”
The two dropped down. Hunter One and Four dragged the bodies inside the first building. Hunter Two makes his way to them.
“Good one, rookie,” said Hunter Two.
“You quite redeemed yourself on that first shot,” said Hunter Four, “but don’t go on rushing alone like that next time. You’ll kill yourself.”
“Copy, sir,” Hunter Three responded.
“Check for intels in this building. We’ll check the next ones if it’s not here,” Hunter One said.
“Sir,” Hunter Three said as he opened one briefcase by the guy he gunned down.
Hunter One approached him and saw a familiar rugged laptop inside it. He pressed the power button and an insignia appeared on the screen.
“The Ultranationalists,” said Hunter One, “This is it, Hunters. Let’s move to the LZ.”
“How lucky,” said Hunter Two.
The team made a quick and silent escape from the camp and went for the extraction point.
Somewhere in the Pacific aboard a US carrier – 08:05
Hunter Four approached Three while he’s sorting his things.
“Alex, right?”
“Yes, Sir,” Alex responded.
“Continue what you’re doing. They called us off so no need to be formal right now.”
“I’m sorry about earlier, Sir.”
“No, you did the right thing. I’m the one who have to say sorry.”
“No, Sir, I don’t think you should-”
“Call me Happy just like the others. And I’m sorry I shouldn’t be hard on you like that earlier. It’s just.”
“I understand, Sir- Happy.”
“No you don’t Alex. Look, you know why they called me Happy?”
“I don’t, Sir. I mean Happy.”
“It’s because I have a gorgeous wife, nice kids, big house, and a stable business.”
“Wow. Uh, I mean that’s something.”
“It is. And having this kind of life sometimes gets tangled on being in spec ops. Just like what I did earlier.”
“I’m not sure I can follow, sir.”
“When I see you, I see my son. And I don’t want my son getting hurt or something. I was being overprotective on you earlier that I didn’t think about one thing.”
“What’s that, Sir?”
“That there’s a reason why they chose you for being in this unit at a very young age.”
Alex is speechless after hearing that. For Alex, Happy is one of his role models in the military. His years of service and missions accomplished made his way into this very elite force recon unit.
“And a word of advice, Alex. We only have two weeks of break. Use it like it’s your last,” Happy laughed, “I’m not saying we’re going to die the next time we’re out, no. Hahaha!”
“I understand, Sir.”
“I’m just saying, yes you have the skills, but you’re too young. Life has a lot to offer on a young one like you. Try to enjoy your life a little. Well, at least while we’re in a break.”
Miami Beach - Day One of the Break - 21:26
Alex is enjoying his bottle of soda while listening at the sound of the waves.
Alex's phone rang. He looks at it and read the message, “Alex the dinner is at eight. Where are you?” There are a couple of missed calls from the same number. Alex turned his phone off and got up. He picked up his jacket slightly covered in sand and walked away from the beach.
After few minutes of walking he went through an alley right next to a bar. Suddenly a girl came running from behind and took his jacket. The girl didn’t bail off. Instead she wore his jacket and grabbed his right arm.
“Just walk and don’t look back,” the girl said while smiling.
Alex looked back and saw two guys on a coat and tie searching for something. One of them looked at him.
“They’re looking at me,” Alex told the girl.
“Kiss me,” the girl responded.
“What?” he said confused.
“On the forehead, dummy.”
As he kissed her on the forehead the guy whose looking at him looks away. As soon as the two are out of their sights the girl immediately free Alex's arms.
The girl smiled at him, “Thanks. And uhm, your jacket.” Alex thought she’d return it to him. “Can I use it for a while? It’s pretty cold tonight.”
Alex confused about what’s happening just nodded to the girl. Although he have a hunch that she may be in trouble.
They continued their walk for a few minutes in silence until the girl breaks the ice.
“I’m Samantha Pierce. You can call me Sammy,” she smiled at Alex. She didn’t know what’s going on in his mind if he’s upset or afraid or just don’t care if she’s still walking with him. She didn’t even know where he’s going. She just decided that she’d follow him while she’s still using his jacket.
“So, what are you up to this late night?” Sammy asked.
“Shouldn’t I be asking that question?” Alex said in a calm voice. His eyes are on the road and hands in his pockets, “By the way I’m Alex, Alex Morgan.”
“Right, I’m so sorry about earlier. Did that scared you or something?”
Alex smiled. Sammy saw it and had a relief, “You’re quite odd.”
“What?” she giggled, “You too, you know. A moment earlier you’re so serious like you’re thinking about world peace or something,” she joked.
“No, I think the girl who randomly grabs someone’s jacket and arms while obviously trying shake off her two suspicious followers by begging for a kiss is way more odd. No difference if it even happened in the day or night.”
The two both laughed.
“Seriously, you don’t feel even a split second scared or some kind?” Sammy asked.
“Uhh, yup maybe a little. But the moment I saw who took my jacket I, uh,” Alex paused for a second and stared at her, “You just look so innocent that nobody in my situation would be afraid.”
Sammy nods, “Oh yeah?”
“And you look nice,” They both giggled. “I- I mean decent. I don’t usually compliment people, so uh,” Sammy smiled at him, “Seriously anyone in my situation wouldn’t even feel afraid of you popping up like that.”
“That’s good to hear.” Suddenly Sammy became serious, “You won’t uhm, ask why I’m being followed by those guys?”
“Does it matter?” Alex smiled at her, “Should I be worried about myself or something?”
“No it doesn’t,” Sammy smiled in relief, “And no you don’t have to.”
“I usually do this,” said Alex, “you know, walking around in the middle of the night. It kind of makes my mind clear off of some stress. Things to think about. Problems to deal with. For me those doesn’t matter for a moment. At least.”
Sammy smiled, “You’re interesting.”
Morgan Residence – 23:08
“This is where you live?” Sammy asked.
“Yup,” Alex sighed. Sammy noticed his change of mood as Alex moves to continue on walking past his house.
Sammy thought that this is the good time to ask about Alex's problem but she hesitated a little. Instead Sammy thought of giving Alex's jacket back to him so he can go home. As she’s unzipping the jacket to take if off and give it back, Alex turned around.
“Hey,” he said with a smile. Sammy stopped.
“I think you should go in. Call it a day, Alex,” Sammy still thinks about his problem.
“I’ll walk you home.”
Sammy started to look worried, “Alex, don’t worry about me. Just-” She looks at his house and notices someone opening the door.
“Let’s go,” Alex said while he reach for Sammy’s arms. But Sammy didn’t move from where she stands.
“Alex?” said the woman who got out of Alex’s house.
“Mom,” Alex responded.
“Good evening, Ma’am,” Sammy politely said with a smile.
“Oh boy! Why didn’t you tell me?” His mother said excitedly while looking at Sammy, “You are gorgeous, darling.”
“Wow. Thank you,” Sammy responded blushing, “I’m Sammy by the way.”
“I’m Dorothy, Alex’s mom, if he didn’t tell you about me,” She then turned on Alex, “Why didn’t you told us about her?”
Alex is about to say something but Sammy interrupts, “He wanted us to meet first,” She smiled at Alex, “Right, babe?”
Alex looked puzzled at Sammy but decided to go on with her, “Right.”
“Well then let’s get inside, honey,” said Dorothy.
The three had a little chat while the two continued to pretend they’re a couple.
Morgan Residence – 23:50
Inside Alex's room, Sammy is on the bed while Alex is setting up his bed on the floor.
“Never knew you’re in the military,” Sammy said.
“You didn’t ask,” Alex replied.
“You don’t look like one,” Sammy smiled.
“What should I look like?” He laughed.
“I don’t know. A military hair maybe?”
“You mean army cut? No, that’s not a requirement in the special forces.”
“Wow!” Sammy said in awe, “What special force are you in?”
“That, you don’t need to know.”
“I see. By the way I’m sorry about this,” Sammy said, “I didn’t expect your mom to be this accommodating.”
“Yup,” Alex sighed, “Good luck telling her the truth tomorrow.”
“It’s nothing. I can see that your mom would understand,” she smiled, “She seems to be very generous and lovely. I wonder why you wouldn’t go eat dinner with her.”
Alex looked at Sammy seriously, “I’m sorry?”
“If you have any problems with her I’m sure she’d understand, if you try to talk to her.”
“I don’t have any problems with mom. It’s on who she’s with.”
“Who’s with her? If uhh, you don’t mind?”
“My father.”
Sammy looked worried, “What about your father?”
“He left us when I was four. Half a year ago he went back. First I thought it’s because he knew I went in the military. But he said the woman he’s with died. He had children with this woman. Both of them didn’t care about him after their mother died. So he went back to us. That’s almost twenty years.”
“He’s here?”
“Yes and probably asleep.”
“Alex! Alex!” They heard Dorothy downstairs. The two both rushed down. Sammy noticed Alex's father going down too.
“Mom?” Alex said worriedly.
Dorothy is watching the TV, “Look.”
“- with unknown numbers of people dead,” The broadcaster said, “This attack on Paris won’t go unanswered said our President. While the French police are still trying to get the situation under control, The Pentagon is having an emergency meeting.”
“What for? Are there any threats to us?” Alex asked.
“That’s why I called you Alex. If you know anything about this,” Dorothy said, “The terrorists implicated that they are executing a simultaneous attack on different countries. Oh, good Lord help us.”
Goodman Residence, Los Angeles – 21:01
“Any word from Alex?” Happy said while talking on the phone.
“Nothing,” said someone over the phone, “We’ve been trying to contact him but his phone seemed to be off.”
“Okay I’ll try calling him.”
Happy dialed Alex's number. On the first try Alex immediately picked up.
“I can’t believe they can’t reach him,” Happy said, “Alex?”
“Sir?”
“What the hell happened to you? Lead said they can’t reach your phone.”
“I’m sorry sir it was off. I wasn’t expecting-”
“It’s alright it seems we’re not that late for action. What time is it there?”
“Twenty-four zero one, Sir.”
“Uhm, they’re going to pick you up in an hour. Get ready.”
“Copy that, Sir.”
