MILTON POV
I sit down in a small waiting room. I adjust my suit and tie and clear my throat. Today is the day I try and get rid of my good for nothing, useless, pathetic excuse for a son. I just need him out of my life, and this seems like the easiest way.
Get a good deal and a huge burden will be lifted off my shoulders. Today will be a win win unless he doesn’t accept the deal…let’s just not think of that right now.
“Mr. Smith sir Can I offer you a beverage while you wait?” the lady behind the desk asks politely and I slowly shake my head with a kind smile. I hope I shouldn’t be here long enough to get a drink. I should be called in any minute.
I flick my wrist and look at the time from my golden Rolex. Just on time. The door swings open and there in the doorway is Robert Foreman. Clean-shaven buzz cut and a slight trail of stubble. His grey eyes stare expecting into mine.
I stand up from my seat and greet him at the door. He holds out a strong arm to me and I eagerly accept his handshake.
“Mr. Foreman nice to meet you I’m- “
“Mr. Smith.” He smiled at me and gestured for me to enter the room. I stride into the room and sit down on a black sofa. He follows me in sitting behind his desk.
“So, Mr. Smith” he starts, and I quickly interrupt him.
“Please call me Milton” he nods in acknowledgment.
“So, Milton, I hear you are willing to hand your son over to mine in marriage.”
“Yes, I am but I do expect something in return,” I say with a grin on my face, I’m going to make him a deal he simply can’t refuse.
“Ah yes with all good things comes a price” I’m tempted to protest on the fact he isn’t a good thing but with my best interest in my mind I decide against it.
“I want to combine our businesses, you see. I think this is a great opportunity to expand and strengthen our industries.” I have a whole presentation-ready if needs be.
“Hmm…I can see how this may potentially work” he looks at the desk and thinks hard, “I of course would like to meet the boy myself before signing anything. I also will need everything like birth certificate and stuff for obvious reasons.”
“Yes, I understand…when would you like to meet Callum?” I hope it's not too long away.
“I actually have a break at lunchtime. Would that be an acceptable time for you?”
“Yes, it will” the sooner he meets him the sooner he will sign the papers and he will finally be gone and no longer my responsibility anymore.
“Okay great is that all you would like in return for your son?”
“Yes” I nod firmly glad that there is a high chance he will accept this deal.
I stand up and he follows me from the room. We go back out into the lobby where we first met and I turn to face him.
“Where would you like to meet him?” I ask realizing that I don’t know.
“How about the 4 and halve star restaurant down the road. The sandwich place that just opened…I think that would be a great fit.”
“Okay, I will bring him there at lunch.”
He holds out a hand and I shake it again. He walks away, and I watch with a huge smile on my face. Finally, after 17 years of feeding that kid and looking after him, I can just get rid of him once and for all.
