As Tristan, the king's eldest son, comes upon his twenty-first year, the people eagerly anticipate the choosing of his bride, their soon-to-be queen. Going against tradition, an announcement is sent throughout the kingdom, inviting all the young ladies of the land to come and attend a month-long ball. Only one participant can win the prince’s heart, but that may prove difficult when the man himself isn’t really interested in finding something as trivial as love.

Meanwhile, Isabell, a young woman serving in the confines of a dirty estate, finds herself with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: an invitation to the King's Ball, extended to her by a distant aunt. In exchange for the freedom it grants, she agrees to go. However, she has no intention of fighting for a crown or the riches it promises. Instead, she resolves to ignore the prince and treat it as a mere formality. But, as the ball commences and the waters of competition intensify, both Tristan and Isabell may discover something more than they bargained for.
