Fiarac “Fia” Basdlan is shackled to the empire he once fought against. Gifted in magic, including the oft-feared and highly coveted skills that make him one of the last known Blood Knights in the Aurinon Kingdom, he spends his days doing the bidding of the emperor, skirting the ire of the empress, and training the crown prince, all under a collar even his skills cannot break.

When a dragon egg en route to the capital city goes missing, Fia is sent out to locate not only the egg but the thief behind it, whom the emperor wants brought to a swift and quiet justice. It’s this mission that puts Fia on a collision course with Elios “Eli” Vimmati, the self-proclaimed master thief of the continent and someone with a keen eye for the worth of an object. Jewels, precious metals, artworks of the highest craft, or a living soul. Everything has a price as far as Eli is concerned, and plenty who are willing to pay it.

As instructed, Fia plays the faithful hunting dog, steadfast and unstoppable, but on one fateful night, Eli makes Fia a proposition: help him secure the dragon egg, and he will secure Fia’s freedom. It’s a choice that may very well unravel all the good the empire has laid claim to.
