No need to explain

No need to explain

- Henry is in the living room. Charlie enters after coming back from school. -

Henry:- Henry is in the living room. Charlie enters after coming back from school. -

Henry: Carl, come back here! Don’t tell me you’re wearing a skirt AGAIN?!

Charlie: Yes, I am and I still don’t understand why that’s wrong. It’s no different from Kate wearing a skirt.

Henry: Of course it is! You’re a BOY, for god’s sake!

- Silvia enters the room -

Silvia: What’s all the noise about? …Oh… Carl, dear, did you go to school like that?

Charlie: Yes, yes I did. I don’t see what the problem is with that. It’s true that most of my classmates and teachers don’t understand, but that’s their problem, not mine.

Silvia: But you have so many other clothes, ones that normal boys your age wear. Why must you insist on wearing those of your sister?

Charlie: Because I’m NOT a boy!

Henry: Yes you are, and we’re trying to help you become a healthy one! Isn’t the priest helping you see sense?!

Charlie: Of course not! - sounding desperate - What good… - interrupted -

- Front door opens. Kate/Katherine enters -

Kate: I’m home!

- Kate enters living room -

Kate: What’s all the ruckus about?

Silvia: Nothing dear! How was your month at university? Are you hungry from the journey? I bet you are. How about I make us some dinner, while you freshen up and Carl puts on some PROPER clothes.

Kate: Not that again! Why can’t you just accept the fact that you have two daughters?! SHE’s explained the whole concept a million times! By the way it’s Charlie, not Carl, and it’s perfectly normal for HER to be wearing a skirt!

Henry: Of course it’s not! I love the both of you with all my heart, I swear I do, but she’s ill.

Silvia: We only want what’s best for you, Carl. If you only listened to what the priest and we say…

Charlie: No! - now sobbing - I’m not sick! I thought coming out to you would be safe, but it’s becoming clearer, and clearer that it was a big mistake.

- Charlie storms upstairs, crying -

Kate: Ok, I’m done. Do you know how many times she skyped me, crying because everyone thought she was sick?! As our parents, you should know better. I’m sick of seeing my SISTER in tears.

- Kate goes upstairs and comes back down a few minutes later with an extra suitcase and a crying Charlie -

Kate: Here’s something to think about: What do you prefer; two daughters, or no daughters at all.

I wrote this two years ago. Should I work it out into a longer script, a story, rewrite it, or leave it be?
