(WELCOME friends! Thank you for giving my little story a go :D I hope you have fun! I have uploaded a few chapters for this one before but I wasn't happy with my amateur writing so I took it back down. Now I hope my amateur writing is better amateur writing than the amateur writing from back then. In case you haven't noticed I'm an amateur. If there are any things that need a grammar check or better explaining or any other issues that you may find please do point them out so I can get them fixed!<3)
Some old legends that were once told by the humans never died out. They lingered in the people telling them because those stories were too important to get lost in time.
My parents said that the earthlings were very experienced and wise because of everything they've done and overcome, but in the end, their greed and hatred drove them to near extinction.
My mother knew a human once. He used to stay in one of the rooms above her cafe. His name was Jace Dafton, he didn't have a lot of money but he paid for his rent by telling his stories down by the hearth. Travelers from all across the galaxy came to see him in the cafe. Sadly I've never met him myself. He died a little before I was born, yet I'm convinced he lives on in all the people who have stayed and listened to his stories, as well as me. My name is Jace Quinn, named after Jace Dafton. Before my Ma died she used to tell me his stories every night before I went to sleep.
Her heart and my mind went to far places once she started to speak about them. Our favorite one was the story of the foolish fire, a ghost-light, that lived on earth near swamps, bogs, or marshes and starts to draw travelers from the safe paths after sunset.
I searched for it, I went to Earth and tried to find it, to see it and to tell my Ma in the stars that I made it.
There is nothing left of the planet Earth from the story.
We don't exactly know what happened to it, but they think the temperature in the atmosphere rose too high, and things caught fire and burned to the ground. The smoke blocked off the sun, the heat got trapped, all plant life died and the continental plates cracked open, letting the molten core flow freely.
Now it's mostly known as the planet of ashes. Yet I've always believed in earth. Life can rise from ashes. The planet, which now looks a lot like the story of hell, still has some potential left.
It is still inhabited by some creatures that changed along with the earth.
Some nasty creatures, but still living things.
I've researched them for a while.
There were dragons, funny enough they looked a lot like the monstrous creatures humans had feared, I guess they were living under the earth's crust in the warmer zones. Maybe they once were at the surface. This is probably something we'll never know.
Then there is some kind of sheep with wool as hard as a rock. They've decreased in height, as well as intelligence. If you come across one, just hide and hope they didn't see you. If they do, on the other hand, they're going to try to roll you over.
Most likely end result: death.
Many animals have changed and mutated but the majority, as well as most of the humans, passed away in the extreme environment, the ones that are left escaped the wrath of the earth and found refuge on other planets. You can practically count them on four hands.
Funny enough one of them is the big boss, Ben Whisper. The governor of space.
The guy works like the dictator of space but he's a nice dictator, sort of. He is more like a father to his section. He has taught me many things, manly things. Things my Ma wasn't able to teach me.
Now here's the thing though, the guy actually is a father. That's at least what people say and I always have open ears for gossiping, they say that his adopted son turned into the most wanted criminal in eternity.
They call him Captain Ryan Wisp. A pirate that kills and steals as much as he wants.
He is an outlaw with a pretty high bounty on his head. I am a bounty hunter, the assassin of the law. I get paid for catching the criminals that the authorities can't get a grip on.
At this point, you might wonder what happened to me being a researcher. Well, research isn't cheap and I ran out of money to afford it a long time ago, but when I catch Ryan Wisp and cash in that bounty, my search for the ghost light will be back on.
