“So he just left mid-date?”
“Yeah, asshole didn’t even pay his part of the bill”
“Didn’t you say he’s a doctor?”
“Yeah so. Jeez, Kendall control your pitbull.”
“Not her pitbull.”
“Sorry, what was that Payton?”
“I said I’m not her pitbull Nell.”
“Calm down Payton she’s just messing with you,” Payton growled calmly when Kendall rested her hand on her shoulder.
“See. Pitbull, no beast. That’s it your her beast and she’s your beauty.” Nell laughed, clapping in excitement. Payton rolled her eyes at that, yeah it was true. But they weren’t dating Kendall wasn’t gay, Payton was but not Kendall there is no way Kendall could be gay. In all the years she and Payton had been friends, she had never seen Kendall without a guy wrapped around her finger. But that doesn’t mean it hadn’t crossed her mind. Her mother would always say she should find someone like Payton but it wasn’t until late that she actually took the joke as a serious option. Not that she couldn’t find a man like Payton, but what if she didn’t want ‘like’ but the actual thing? No no no, you're not supposed to think about your best friend like that Kendall.
“Kendall, you okay?” Payton asked, turning around on the couch to face her.
“What? Uh..yeah just kind of zoned out for a minute sorry. What were we talking about?”
“The asshole Nell went on a date with,” Payton offered.
“No, we were talking about how-”
“Nell. Seriously leave her alone.” Kendall says sternly.
“Okay, sorry. Hey, Payton you dating anyone I know someone who knows a girl who’s looking to date!” Nell says breaking out in a wide smile.
“No. No dating. You know I don’t date.” Payton groaned.
“Why?”
“Because I…it doesn’t matter I don’t want to date okay.”
“Oh come on-”
“Kendall make her stop talking!”

“Bye Nell, tell your mom I said hi,” Mom says waving goodbye to Nell from the porch and watching as she speeds off, “That girl needs to learn to slow down.”
“Speeding or men?” Payton jokes popping a grape in her mouth.
“Both,” Mom says closing the door with a smile.
“Thanks for letting us hang here mom. With the break-up and everything I can’t stand to be in that house longer than I have to,” Kendall says sighing.
“Eh, I don’t mind. It's been too quiet since you moved out. Empty nest and all.”
“I STILL LIVE HERE MOM!”
“I know Casey, I am painfully aware of it.” She yells. Payton laughs earning an ugly look from Kendall.
“What? It’s funny,” Kendall frowns, “Okay..not funny.”
“I told you that, Derek was it? He was bad for you, you need to find someone like-”
“Payton, yeah I know. You say that a lot.”
"Hey if I had it my way you two would be married and I'd have grandkids." Mrs. Marshall says smiling at the two earning a smile from Payton and a frown from Kendall.
"She's telling the truth, you have no idea how many times she offered me money to marry you," Payton giggles, almost choking on the grape in her mouth.
"Mom!"
"What? You two would be perfect for each other. But hey if you two don't want to be together fine...I can wait. Not for too long I am old," Mrs. Marshall smiles earning a massive laugh from Payton causing her to cough.
"Would you stop, you're going to make Payton choke," Kendall growled as she patted the coughing girl on the back, earning an eye roll from her mother, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah, hey Mrs. M I'm gonna head out soon. Don't want to be getting home too late." Payton smiled as the oldest woman handed her a beer.
"Stay. You can sleep on the couch." Mrs. Marshall smiles patting the young woman on the back.
"You sure? I can leave, it's no problem you know I'm used to driving back I'll be fine-"
"I'm sure Payton, I don't need you falling asleep at the wheel." Payton nodded as she slowly turned her head towards Kendall.
"You don't mind?" Payton asks nervously picking at the label of the beer bottle.
"Why would I? It doesn't bother me although you sleeping on the couch does, why don't you sleep with me?" Kendall asks smiling as Payton stops mid-sip.
"No. I'll be alright on the couch." She had been like that since she came out. She was always worried she'd make Kendall uncomfortable. Didn't want her to think she liked her or was making a move on her. Always stayed at arm's length. And Kendall hated it. "Payton. My bed is fine. I'm not gonna bite."
'Unless you want me to.' Kendall thought smiling. "Okay. Sure." Payton smiled nervously as she took a long sip of her beer.
