Gareth was able to break the rules by murdering a group of Bandit Humans for their sacred law after escaping. Pureblood Vampires who sign up for The Union of Pureblood Services and refuse to follow their instructions will be beheaded or executed by them. Gareth's former teammates were instructed to track him and take his head to capture him, but they were unable to accomplish the task.
