AMELIA GENEVIEVE HANNOVER:
The forest is quieter than usual and the gloomy stillness gives me an indescribable calm. The fog is no longer so persistent and the sun's rays caress my skin, embracing my body.
“See that swing over there, the one which Is held by the great tree's branches? No one Is using It, It's gloomy like your past. Amelia, do you remember how you used to play In the park when you were little but later found yourself sleeping on the wet ground after the tragedy happened? It was dark, cold, and lonely. The children and families left the city and yours was ruined. Do you wish to relive your past before you turned eleven?”
"Sometimes," I answer as I glance far away from the abandoned swing.
That voice of a child haunts me, I've never seen her face.
Intuition leads me down a path that stops in a clearing where the sun shines like a beautiful dream. In the middle of the clearing, a mirror that attracts me Is found. Something pushes me towards the mirror. I am drawn to it. My feet stop in front of It as I observe it's broken, noticing my distorted reflection. I remain like a stone sheepfold as I see my wide-open eyes looking back at me and parts of my body but it's not clear at all. I lean on my knees as I gently touch the broken glass, it looks like someone punched it. In what is left of the mirror, I notice the pure white lace dress I am wearing. Out of the blue, my attention is stolen by a horror sound. I look up to face a wolf that is two steps in front of me. Alarmed, I stand up to notice that the wild creature is not looking at me but at something behind me. The animal snarls hostilely, afraid. Slowly and carefully I turn around to find a woman who looks like I do, except her dress is pure black.
My copy is holding a snow-white cat that has a perfect black spot on the fur on its head. Amelia seems evil and mysterious, no good news. She unfolds her arms, letting the cat run in freedom. The scent of fire fills the insides of my nose before I see that behind her, fire risens from the ground, reducing the part of the forest which is behind her to ashes. She stands there looking with disappointment In her wrathful eyes.
I don't recognize my own self. No! This can't be me!
I turn around, running away In horror. Something pulls me down, paralyzing my body before falling into nothingness.
I am dreaming, again.
I used to believe.
One hour ago.
It’s Monday...
Oxygen filled my nose and mouth as I opened my eyes. My clothes were dusty and I think I was left with a few wounds. I realized that I blacked out before founding myself running away from the danger. My brain was foggy and I could barely remember anything. My nose was bloody. Trembling legs, heart beating so fast like it was about to cease at any moment. I ran as fast as possible before I quickly hid in a narrow alley. I sat down on the frosty ground as the memories of me being dragged and struggling to keep fighting flashed In my mind.
"I'm such an idiot, all those people are dead because of me. Why did I run?" I murmured to myself as tears were pouring down my cheeks. I remembered the blood and their screams as they fought with their hands almost empty.
This Is how it's all going to end?
I looked scared at the gray sky, almost dark. In a short time, a storm was arriving which would make everything more difficult than It was.
I believe that everything happens for a reason, coincidences don't exist. My father died, which means I need to continue his legacy and work to be like him.
“They require me.” I whispered to myself, trying to snatch a deep breath. If I die saving the city, then I die. At that point, I angrily grabbed my gun and loaded It. Fast, I ran out of the alley into the empty-like city which looked almost the opposite of what It was In the past. I stopped as I found myself being 27 meters apart from the creepy half-human creature. I don't think they are sighting me now. A sharp touch of fear hit me as I looked at their dark, long and sharp tentacles. How am I supposed to kill this?
Fast, I took my walkie-talkie with my left hand, turned It on, and said "I'm in the center, twenty-seven meters behind a creepy monster that has tentacles. I am one of the ten and I think that It had killed the other nine. I'm behind a jet car."
"Are you alone? Are there any people around?"
I looked around to be sure I was alone. "I'm alone."
"Hang in there, help Is on the way."
I turned off my walkie-talkie and put It back In my pocket.
But, little did I know-
I heard footsteps and instantly realized that I am not alone. Jonas was going somewhere lamely, looking quite exhausted.
"Where are the other eight? I can't find any of them." I asked as I hurried toward him.
He coughed, barely possessing any energy left to indeed speak. "I and other three decided to follow the Blue Serpents Clan members and discard the others. It was a mistake."
The world started spinning around me and I felt like I couldn't breathe. "They died?"
He glanced away painfully with tears In his eyes. His behavior was enough to inform me of what happened. Pity took me over before I spoke. It wasn't a good idea for the ten of us to split into small groups.
"What about the other five?"
Two masked people armed with guns came from behind the corner of a building near us, withdrawing my attention.
No!
My eyes shifted to one of them who pointed a gun at my ally. I thrusted him away from the stranger's target. They are from the other clan, the one who uses weapons and witchcraft. The bullet almost got in my face, however, I was fast enough.
Both of us ran away as fast as we could, leaving the center and entering an alley. There were a few buildings and corners where we could hide. Both of us rushed towards a corner and hid. I prepared my gun.
"We are In danger. Two versus who knows how many of them." He complained.
How many of them? Is a good question because I don't know the answer. A few members of the Blue Serpents clan attacked and those from the other clan joined the attack. May It mean that the two clans will unite?
I identify three of them running towards a bus, hiding behind It. As I observed the last of them running, I shot and the bullet struck their leg, making them fall to the ground In agony. I looked at him and asked, "Are you ready?"
"Absolutely." He spoke with admirable courage. I glanced back and did not see any of them. "I heard that they used weapons even more advanced than ours," I commented with anger as I looked at my gun.
"If there's a clan that fights with powers, why must there be a clan that fights with weapons?" He asked.
"I have no idea," I answered as I looked around like a wolf searching for Its prey to see If someone was about to injure us. He took a step forward, making my blood run hot In anger.
"You might get hurt," I spoke, only he didn't listen.
Suddenly, Jonas walked Into the street without caring, putting his life In danger.
"Wait! What are you doing?" I asked, alarmed.
As I ran, I looked over my shoulder to examine if any enemy was preying on us. Jonas fired into the open space and I went after him, trying to make him stop.
He pulled the trigger. Instantaneously, two of them start shooting at us, seizing my attention from him. “No, no, no.”
- Bang!
