What could possibly go wrong? That could be the motto of eleven-year-old Eve – at least when it comes to enforcing her sense of justice.

When her attempt to rescue a cat from a showman goes badly wrong, Eve's kindness arouses the interest of a “shining one.”

Spirits who have lived alongside humans and magicians for millennia, but have been hiding from most humans for several centuries.

Because magic, mages, and spirits are either humbug or dangerous blasphemy. Creatures that serve Evernot, the symbol of all evil.

Eve has always known that it is not a good idea for others to know that she can see things that are not there or that she can talk to those who are only animals or figments of the imagination. So when she helps, she does so in secret. It is safest to hide this part of herself behind a thick wall.

However, this wall literally cracks when she falls into the ruins of the Temple of Seeschaumbriese, the patron saint of Eisenfell, during a bomb attack.

Desperate to find a way out of the ruins, she breaks an ancient seal and frees the Arch Magus Yurik and his malicious familiar Dagô R'Jha.

Caught in the threads of a curse, her path becomes bound to Yurik's, and she must face the questions of who she really is, who she wants to be, and whether she can truly trust the two acient souls.

A story about old wounds, accepting the past, self-discovery, and growing up in a world that seems hostile to one's true self.
