“Leo!” There's banging, “I thought I told you to get up hours ago!”
The blue turtle groans, rolling further into his bed sheets as he pulls his pillow over his head, “Actually it was exactly an hour and thirty-three minutes ago!”
There's a scoff from his older brother, “Just get your shell out here. We have to head to the hidden city today or we won't have food for dinner!” He yells as his footsteps fade away.
Leo huffs, eyes blinking open as he grunts, shifting his ass into the air until his back cracks pleasingly. He sits up then, droopy eyes gazing around his room until he decides what shirt he wants.
He could go with his white T-shirt and the snazzy little button up with the pineapples on it. But then again, he's pretty sure he stained that one on the first day he found it. His gaze turns to his black shirt in the corner, but he frowns at it.
The sixteen year old perks his lips, and his eyes land on his favorite hoodie. He grins, the vibes today feeling lazy and laid back- even if they do have errands to run.
He rolls out of bed- literally- and snatches the dark blue hoodie from the depths of a very large pile of sweats and sweaters. He frowns down at it for a moment, noting that perhaps he should clean that up.
…Maybe later.
He tugs the hoodie on, reaching up on his shelf and scooting his Jupiter Jim collectables out of the way to tug his wedged mask out. He pulls it on, tying it securely to his head.
Better.
He grabs his wallet on his way out.
He yawns broadly as he steps out, rubbing at his eyes as he saunters through the lair. The TV room is lively as he enters it, Donnie and Mikey openly debating about a movie that Leo isn't sure he's seen. He blinks at them wearily, then grins, leaning on the door frame.
“Goooood morning ladies.”
Dinner scoffs, raising his brows as he looks to his twin, “Try afternoon, Leonardo.”
Leo raises a brow as he pretends to check a watch on his wrist, “It's past twelve?”
His nerd twin snorts, moving to stand, “Has been for about three hours.”
Leo shrugs, “Oh well.” He smiles as Mikey comes over and lightly punches his shoulder as he passes. Leo turns to follow him out, moving down to the kitchen, “Morning little brother.”
Mikey hums happily in response, walking over to the fridge as he opens the door, “You want some leftover take out Nardo?”
He smirks, raising a brow, “What kind?”
His little brother looks down into the container, frowning skeptically before inquiring, “Not sure.”
The older grimaces, “Nah I'm good.” He grunts as a shoulder hits him. He frowns as Donnie types away on his phone, “Ouch. My arm.” He says in a grating voice.
“Sorry.” The purple turtle responds without much effort, plopping himself down at the island. Mikey places a portrait in front of him, and he starts nibbling at it like a squirrel as he focuses on whatever he's writing.
Leo snorts, a soft smile gracing his lips as he watches his brothers mosey around the kitchen.
“Alright guys…” He looks to his left as Raph enters the room, the taller guy passing him without much thought, “Do all of you have your wallets. Cause so help me, if we get there, and one of you forgot your snack money again-”
Donnie raises his in the air, eyes focused on his game, “Done.”
“Mikey-?”
“In my pocket.”
Raph turns on Leo, and he smirks at his older brother as he pats his hoodie pocket, “In my favorite hoodie.”
Donnie looks up at that, eyes landing on the sweater before he makes a gagging noise, “Nardo. That hoodie? Again?”
“What?” Leo chuckles as he walks further into the kitchen, hands gracing the ‘I <3 hot guys’ with a grin, “I love this hoodie.”
Donnie makes a cringing face, “I don't.”
Raph sighs, “Guys… Don't start already. Leo literally just woke up.”
Donnie frowns, raising his brows as he curls up in the chair like a shrimp, “Well, perhaps Leo shouldn't bear such hideous clothing.”
Leo finger shoots him, “Right back at’cha my eccentric friend.” He walks over to Mikey, glancing down at the food that his younger brother pulls from the microwave. He grimaces, and grabs the cup with wide eyes.
“Wha- Leo!”
“You are not…” The blue turtle pops the trashcan open, “Eating that, Micheal.”
The younger brother ends up pouting rather than being mad.
“I'll buy you something else Mikey.” He nudges him with his elbow before walking over to the eldest, placing his hands on his hips as he grins at him, “Ready when you are Raphie.”
Raph smiles at him, and Leo ignores the mild discomfort that comes with them making eye contact. He shifts his gaze away, the hands on his hips tightening for a moment before he moves to follow the older one out the door, Mikey and Donnie hot on his tail.
“Hey, soooo apparently there's a new line of those shirts that I like.” Donnie says, raising his brows at the three of them, then realizing that none of them are paying him mind, he simply sighs, pointing towards the store they passed, “I'll be in there. Text me where you're at later.”
“Uh yeah, yeah…” Leo scans the area for something new to do while Raph and Mikey enjoy the grocery shopping. That or he could just go to the arcade for a bit. That never seems to bore him.
It's always been like that. Mikey and Raph have their brotherly, mature moment while Leo and Donnie are free to go do as they pleased. Leo takes the responsibility of laundry once a week just so he doesn't have to go through a boring store with boring things and-
“Leo, you're coming with me.”
The blue ninja turns on his eldest brother, “What!? But I was-”
“Mikey wants to go with Donnie.” Before Leo can even protest it, Mikey bolts off after their lanky brother. “Apparently there's new sneakers in there too.” Raph smiles at him, and Leo doesn't miss the unsure tug in his lips before he darts his eyes away, “C’mon. It's only a few things.”
Leo huffs, pouting as he crosses his arms over his chest, “Fine, fine.”
They walk in practical silence towards the yōkai grocery store. Leo glances up at his older brother, already feeling the uncomfortable tug of being in each other's presence.
Raph grabs a cart as they go in, and Leo follows a few short steps behind, hands gripping his biceps as he looks around at anything but his rather silent brother.
Their relationship since the Kraang has been rather… Touchy. Leo knows Raph is upset with him for what he did at the portal, and Raph knows Leo feels the same about when they tried to get the key before that.
But Leo knows deep down that there's a bunch of little things in this unspoken anger between them. Casey pointed out a bunch of things the day they got trapped in all that debris. He didn't listen to them. He was too cocky. He doesn't listen. He just wasn't a good leader.
And now well… They train and spend time together, but nobody has really stepped up to be the leader since all of that ended. It's been two- well two and half- months. The blue turtle knows that maybe they should talk if oug, make the atmosphere around them a little less… Aggressive. A little less upset.
But how the hell do you do that? ‘Oh hey, remember when I tried to sacrifice myself. Yeah sorry about that.’
Yeah, okay.
He sighs, and stares down at the cabbage and celery in front of him, having stopped when Raph started looking at the broccoli. Mikey has been on one with broccoli lately.
He reaches down, picking up a cabbage to distract himself from the thoughts he was having. He tosses it back and forth between his hands a few times, and huffs again as boredom quickly takes over and he places it back. He looks around again, turning and spinning until his eyes land on his favorite section.
Snacks.
He grins ear to ear before patting his brother on the shoulder, “I'll be back big bro, just locked in on my target.”
Raph raises a brow but nods, “Okay, be back quick though, I'm almost done.”
“Gotcha!” The blue ninja strides towards the section, happiness flooding his veins as he finds something to do besides stand around and think like a depressed person.
He steps into the aisle, eyeing each and every candy. It's amazing how yōkai candy almost looks exactly like the human candy above ground. Leo honestly couldn't tell you who copied who. Hell, at this rate he wouldn't be surprised if the humans running the candy places up there were actually yōkai- or vice versa.
He pushes his hands into his pockets, eyes scanning the wide variety of snacks and candies. He hums, perking his lips as he eyes the gummies with interest.
The blue turtle goes wide eyed as his gaze lands on some gummies that sparkle in the sour sugar they're covered in. The name on the bag is different than at the stores above ground, but Leo knows for a fact that those are the exact same thing as the Wizzy Wozzie’s Sour Gummies that were discontinued across the U.S.
Something about them being too chemically dangerous.
Sparkles practically shine out of his eyes as he openly gawks at them. He hasn't seen these since the good old days of being a preteen twelve year old. But God when he ate those things, the sugar high was bliss.
And in his moment of amazement, they disappear from his sight. He blinks, a frown crawling onto his lips as he looks to the right, hands held out towards the shelf, “Hey!”
He looks into the gray eyes of a rather unbothered… Rabbit? He looks like a rabbit. His blue yukata tied with a white belt, ears pulled at the top of his head like a pony tail. He has black hakama on, the baggy things sagging down around his feet where he wears Geta.
Leo raises his bros at the white rabbit, face completely and utterly showing just how flabbergasted he is, “Give those back dude. I was obviously eyeing them.”
Those gray eyes lid over, the rabbit's brows raising on his forehead as he scoffs, holding the gummies up, “Well, dude, I grabbed them before you.”
Leo certainly didn't appreciate the mocking way he said dude, “How about…” He steps forward, hands coming together as he points his pointer fingers at the delicious delicacy, “I give you… Extra cash for that, and you just let me have em.”
The rabbit snorts, looking bemused before going stoned faced and walking away, “No.”
The sixteen year old gawks, “Wha- dude!”
The rabbit ignores him, eyes focused forward as the turtle comes up next to him, walking backwards so he can look the other guy in the face. Leo frowns at him, glaring at the guy. The rabbit's hair hangs slightly over his forehead, one piece close to his eyes. Leo squints his eyes at him as he isn't acknowledged.
“Listen man. I haven't seen a pack of Wizzy Wozzie’s Sour Gummies in actual years! So like could you-” Leo goes wide eyed as the rabbit comes to an abrupt stop, and he falls backwards into a display rack in his haste to stop. His hoodie flies up over his head as he trips to the ground, and he looks up at the rabbit with a frustrated huff.
Said guy looks down at him with annoyed eyes, “Why do you feel the need to heckle me?”
Leo snorts at the word, “Heckle you? Nah, I just want the pack of gummies that you so undeservingly took from my sight good sir.” He waves his hand around as he takes on the voice of a gentleman, “I've no need nor want to heckle you.”
The rabbit isn't amused, “Leave me be.” He mutters and walks away again.
“Dude! Just one!” He begs.
The guy laughs, and doesn't even acknowledge his plea as he looks at the other guy's shirt, “Nice hoodie.” He says with a sarcastic grin. He then turns away, and disappears down an aisle.
Leo frowns, and pouts as he stares at the crackers on the end of the aisle in front of him. He almost had those.
“Leo? What are you doing on the floor?”
The blue turtle pouts further, crossing his arms over his chest, “Some jerk took my gummies.”
Raph sighs as he walks over to the younger boy, “C’mon.” He offers his hand, looking mildly amused, “You look like you're four.”
Leo grunts as he's lifted up like he's a pillow, and he straightens out his hoodie with a frown, “And he made me wrinkle it!” He whines.
He follows Raph around the store for the rest of the time, bored out of his mind with each step. He was gonna get some snacks then head to the arcade down the street.
Well, now his snacks are gone, and he's stuck here doing grocery shopping. He pouts like a four year old all the way through the store, hood still on his head as he glares around at the food like it was the person that made him angry.
He helps Raph scan all the food and get out of there relatively quickly. They head back down the street and they meet up with their brothers near a salon.
Leo gawks at the hoodie Donnie has on. It's a mixture of street art and classical art, and his brain immediately goes bonkers staring at it.
“Wooooaaaah. Donnie has some taste?” He walks over, and feels the fabric on his brother's arm. Donnie tugs his arm away, looking disgusted by the contact.
“Unlike you? Yes.” He says with a winning smirk.
Mikey steps forward, lifting his leg up, “Donnie helped me pay for these.” Leo takes in the tenni-shoes with shining eyes. They're oranger and coral pink, mixing beautifully like watercolors over the white shoe. He grabs Mikey's foot, inspecting them, “Micheal, these are gorg!” He lets go, grinning at his younger brother who looks pleased with the feedback, “Can I wear them sometime?”
Mikey shrugs, “Yeah sure. Just don't scruff ‘em up, these are gonna be my nice shoes from now on.”
Raph snorts, “All your shoes are nice Mikey.”
Leo looks to Donnie, and his twin squints his eyes at him, brow raising as he gives the blue turtle a mean look, “No.”
“But Donnnniiiie!” He puts his hands together, “My dearest, most handsomest brother- no offense guys, I'm begging here-” He says to Raph and Mikey. Donnie doesn't look amused, “Just once in the near future so I can feel its glory.”
Donnie snorts sarcastically, “No.” He says without pretense. Leo pouts and grumbles.
“Alright guys.” They all look to Raph, watching as their eldest brother grins, “Arcade?”
“Yes!” Mikey fist pumps.
“Yes! For real?” Leo moves past him, already heading down the street.
“Of course. I thought we were going anyway.” Donnie comments, following behind them, “Although we can't stay too long if Raph bought milk.”
