Astor Von Schayer is, unfortunately, the only daughter of Marquis Von Schayer. Despite her beauty, her reputation for her unlady-like tendencies precedes her, giving her the unsavory nickname "Battle Angel," and limiting her marriange prospects to her brother's childhood friend. One day, the dying Empress Dowager of the Grandeltas Empire issues a final decree commanding the twelve most influential noble families to send daughters of marriageable age to live in the imperial palace under the mysteriously vague instructions to simply "befriend" her son and the current emperor, Scorpion Grandeltas. Fearing the punishment of treason and the fate of her family, she finds herself one of ten noblewomen coerced into calling the imperial palace their new temporary, albeit indefinite, home. Forming a promise with her betrothed to return before their wedding day, Astor has zero desire to form any kind of relationship with the rumored cold-hearted, young emperor. With nine other overly eager contenders set on winning his affection, the odds of her returning to her normal life and keeping her promise seem quite favorable.
