Moonlight
The school bell went off to let us know that the day was over finally! All of the students were so excited, especially that it was summer vacation.
I just couldn't wait to get home and well, do nothing. I don't know what my parents have planned for the vacation but for now, all I know is I got nothing fun to do.
I would still prefer staying at home and do nothing rather than coming to school though. I just dread studying so much, I know every students do.
"Hey Moonlight, I was wondering if you would like to come for camping day after tomorrow. Few of us are going. So, would you like to join?" Megan, who was a very pretty red headed girl came to ask me that. She looked sexier with her mini skirt on today.
"Um... Day after tomorrow you say? I am sorry, my parents already made some plans for us. I won't be able to make it. It's really nice of you to ask though. I appreciate it." That's my problem. I don't really have friends and I gotta admit that I am a loner. I just love being alone. My parents try their best to get me to socialise but it ain't just me.
"That's sad, I thought you would join." She looked taken aback. That quite surprised me, I don't know if she heard that I was bisexual and if she was trying to hit on me but her expression really said something.
"You know being the new kid and all that. I thought you would use some company." She bit her thin glossy lower lip and her face showed sympathy. She was starting to get closer too. Now I knew she was actually hitting on me.
Geez! News spread fast! It's just been half year since I got into this school and somebody already knows that I am a bi and I don't even have a close friend to talk about all these either. Wonder how she heard more than enough about me.
"Okay, Megan. I will see you around." I tried to drive away the awkwardness she was bringing in me with a smile and picked up my bag to go home.
Yes, I loved dating girls as much as I loved dating boys but I hated when someone was too direct. I don't like when someone tries to make a quick move. It makes me feel uncomfortable and Megan was doing just that. Otherwise, she would have had a chance with me. Who knows?
I was tranquilly walking home alone with so many thoughts inside my mind.
Then suddenly, I remembered my mom telling me to walk home with one of my neighbours, Elena. She lived next door and we go to the same school. We were in same grade too. Grade eleven, just different classes.
I totally forgot about it. My mom kept on blabbering about it since she knew Elena going to the same school as me few months ago but I kept forgetting. Or maybe purposefully forgetting. Today was not on purpose though,I actually forgot.
She might be nice but I like to walk home alone. Gives me time to think and enjoy the walk even more.
I pulled my phone and earphone out of my backpack and started listening to a song. My favourite song of all time was stand by me by Ben E King. Old I know but it sure was gold.
I liked to take myself as an old school person. I didn't mind being that.
I was having my "high on music" moment and humming along with the tune I was listening to heartily when there was a sudden swoosh around me.
I took my earphone out from my ears to see what was going on. A sudden, dark shadow like feature just passed by me and it disappeared nowhere. My right ear felt bit cold and I was starting to get chills.
I quickened my pace. I was starting to get scared. I had no idea what the hell just happened back there.
I was running as fast as I could when the weird thing just crossed in front of me making me fall on my back.
I got up as quick as possible and started running again. I began chanting a prayer. I was all sweaty and red from the fear.
I wasn't aware if some people were there too. I just didn't have the time to look or be still or scream. I just kept on running until I finally reached home.
I never felt this lucky to be alive in my entire life. Thank God for not letting me die out there. I rang the door bell vigorously.
I heard my mom yell, "I am coming, I am coming!"
As soon as she opened the door, her annoyed expression turned into a concerned one.
"Honey... What's wrong?" She pulled me inside the house as she said that.
I wanted to answer but I could barely breathe.
"Did the neighbour girl do something to you? Or is it something else? Are you getting bullied? Did you get into a fight?" She poured water inside a glass and handed it to me, looking more worried than ever.
I gulped the glass full of water and took a deep breath.
"I am fine mom." I wanted to tell her about everything but something stopped me. I just couldn't tell her the whole story.
"No you're not. I won't buy that. You look so... So messed up. Something's wrong." She wouldn't stop until she got the answer she wanted.
"I Uh... I..." I looked at my mom who was waiting patiently for me to speak answer.
"I was chased by a dog, mom. A weird, dark, black, figure... Um... A dog." My mom froze for a moment and after few minutes, she burst into laughter.
"That's a good way to start your vacation, sweetheart. With a very healthy cardio." She said, still laughing.
I tried my best to smile.
"Would you like to eat something? You must be hungry. I will make something for you." My mom said, her laughter finally fading slowly.
"Yes, I would like to eat something after I freshen up." I replied and headed inside my room.
As soon as I stepped inside my room, I collapsed on my bed and stayed there face down for a while until I couldn't breathe anymore.
I was starting to wish to not have moved in this place. Everything was beginning to feel weird now. I just prayed for this feeling to go away sometime soon.
I knew I would go insane if I kept thinking about what just happened on the way from school. So I decided to just shower all the thoughts away.
I stepped out of the shower, feeling a little better. I went towards the window as I covered my body with the towel.
I looked outside and my eyes were caught by the mysterious looking house located opposite to ours. The house was the first thing I noticed when I first looked outside the window on the day we moved in.
The house looked kinda old and grey. Maybe the wood used to build that house was starting to become senile? I didn't know how to call it. It wasn't that big either, enough to fit a small family. I wonder to whom the house belonged.
It had a big tree near it too. I should go there to explore once, maybe tomorrow.
As I focused more on the tree, I noticed a boy leaning on it. He was just casually playing with the grass. I squinted my eyes in hope to see his face clearly but I couldn't.
"Moonlight! Your food is ready! Come down honey." I jumped as I heard my mom. I was too lost looking at the boy trying to figure out who he was.
I turned back to answer my mom and when I turned back, the boy was gone. I looked everywhere in that area but he wasn't there. Did he live there? I decided that I should just forget about it for the moment and go there tomorrow.
So I simply got dressed and headed towards the kitchen to eat the delicious food my mom prepared for me.
Nothing better than good food to make you forget about something you don't want to remember. After that I would listen to some music. Hopefully that would keep me detached from all the weird thoughts.
