= CHRIS POV =

The bottle spun. It wobbled slightly before coming to a halt, its neck pointing straight at me. 

Across the circle, Lily scowled, looking like she was about to get up and keep me seated. The rest of the group erupted into cheers and whistles, their voices echoing off the walls of the dimly lit living room.

“Chris and Lavender! Chris and Lavender! Oooo!!!” they chanted, some banging their fists on the floor for dramatic effect.

I rolled my eyes and pushed up to my feet, brushing imaginary dust off my jeans. “Alright, calm down ladies. And Lavender, you know I’m taking the lead,” I said, flashing a sharp grin that only made them howl louder.

Lavender stood too, her blonde hair catching the glow of the overhead fairy lights as she twirled a strand around her finger.

“Don’t worry, Chrissy-poo,” she cooed, her voice dripping with sarcasm as she held the closet door open for me, “I know just how you like it”

I rolled my eyes again, but this time I didn’t bother to hide my smirk. With a flick of my wrist, I motioned her in.

The door clicked shut behind us, and the muffled chants faded into an expectant hush. Lavender leaned in immediately, her arms sliding around my neck, closing the gap between us. She smelled faintly of vanilla and gin.

“Wanna hear a secret?” I whispered, my lips brushing dangerously close to her ear.

Her breath hitched. “What?” she murmured, her tone dropping, breath hot against my cheek.

I leaned back just enough to look her in the eyes. “I’m in love with your girlfriend.”

The words landed like a slap. Lavender froze, her arms going slack. Her lips parted, but no sound came out. The tension was so thick I could practically taste it.

“What?” she finally managed, her voice cracking ever so slightly, anger flashing in her eyes. 

I knew she was being this performative to get Lily all riled up, and I wasn’t actually going to follow through with kissing her, and risking a broken nose in the process.

“7 SECONDS UP~!!!!” the chorus erupted from outside, shattering the moment.

I shrugged out of Lavender’s limp hold and pushed open the closet door with a dramatic flair.

The room exploded with laughter and applause as I strutted back to my spot in the circle, plopping down like I hadn’t just set a fire and walked away. 

I shot Lavender a grin as she emerged, her face a mixture of shock and something dangerously close to fury.

Grinning ear to ear, I leaned back and stretched my legs out in front of me, feeling every set of eyes burning with curiosity.

God I loved these silly gatherings, and I loved being single, none of that jealousy stuff that I saw shining in both Lily and Lavender’s eyes.
