Games should come with an option called "Have you played this game/other games in this series before?" so that it only explains new mechanics.
Or at the very least, not have the "helper buddy" INSIST AND MAKE SURE 3 TIMES OVER LIKE IT'S WINDOWS VISTA that you really don't want their help. I can barely imagine how it feels for Mario to be explained his own moves 6-7 times by now.
