“BRRRRRRR” My phone vibrated on the nightstand next to my bed as my alarm went off. Beyonce was about to start yelling RING THE ALARM any second now as I was laying down in bed reluctant to move. Haha, ring the alarm as my alarm..get it? Because— alright nevermind, so anyways. My heart was thumping hard in my chest due to the fact that I was awoken so suddenly while I was having the best dream of my life. Albeit, I most likely won’t remember it later, but right now I was trying so hard to hold on to it a bit longer.
“MACCCC GET YOUR ASS UP OUT OF BED NOW!” Alas! It was time to let my dream go and return to the boring concept that is life. What was my dream you wonder? Well I would like to tell you that it wasn’t some cliche like me getting swept off my feet by a handsome stranger I met on the subway and then somehow 3 days later we get married and live happily ever after, but it was exactly that. When I think about it, this is quite hypocritical of me because just the other day I vehemently expressed to my sister how it was dumb as hell that Cinderella and the prince got married after sharing one dance and speaking all of two words to each other. Like the fxck? That’s definitely not how real life works!
“Mac if you do not get your ass out of bed right now so help me-“
“Ok, ok I’m getting up!” The midget that is my mother stood in the doorway glaring at me. Her dark red hair was pulled into a tight bun and she was wearing a white dress suit. If I stood next to her, you’d have thought we were twin sisters. My dad’s genes didn’t make the cut at all…not that it mattered considering he’s not in our lives. My mom was all I needed and here she was waiting on my lazy ass to get out of bed so she can drop me off at the train station. She sends me one last glare before turning around and going downstairs to the kitchen. I finally dragged myself out of bed and threw on some navy blue sweatpants and a Black Clover graphic tee. Yes I like Black Clover bite me, it’s a great anime. I grabbed my bag and trudged downstairs. My mom handed me a glass of orange juice and a slice of buttered toast.
“Have you decided what you wanted to do once you graduate?” My mom asked as she sat on a stool next to the island in the kitchen facing my direction.
I sighed. “No…I just don’t know. I used to be certain about what I wanted when I was in high school, but now that I’m here and doing the work…” I took a big gulp of my orange juice and sighed again. “Maybe being a psych major was a mistake and the thought of changing my major when I’m already in my third year of college gives me heart palpitations.”
“I hope you figure it out soon because with the job you have now your student loans probably ain’t gon be paid off until you’re 60” She raised her brow at me as she said this. “Now let’s go before you miss your train.”
My mom never fails to remind me about how I work at a lousy restaurant being a waitress. I honestly hate it there myself, the men that eat there really know no boundaries. Just the act of looking at my waitress uniform is enough to convince me to run away and never turn back, but I need money and I can’t really afford to miss work. It’s wonderful that I still live with my mother, but I’m the one who pays for all my expenses and etc. Then there’s the student loan business, I don’t want to leave college with a huge amount of debt because that’s just going to hang over my head practically my whole life.
I don’t really like to dwell on this because then I start to get anxious. So I look out the window of the car and watch the buildings mold into one another. It doesn’t take long until I see myself on a private island, laying on a lounge chair by the beach in a bikini. I’m drinking some sort of cocktail out of a pineapple and I assume it to be sweet because the overwhelming taste of alcohol makes me gag. I look out at the sea and watch a tall, lone figure walk out, water running down his sides, his hands running through his hair and over his face. He looks up and smiles when he catches me looking at him. I smile back as he makes his way over here. I realize that he doesn’t have any distinct features because I, in fact, have no clue what my dream man looks like, but oh well I can work with a faceless man. It’s his body I need anyway, haha.
I sit up as he gets close and scoot over. He sits and turns to me, faceless except for his lips. I reach up and wrap my hands around his neck and bring his lips to mine. Our lips touch and I immediately go to bite his lower lip. He gently pushes his tongue through and I open my lips to let him in. He pushes me back against the chair and—
“Mac we’re here,” says my mom as she touches my shoulder. I startle only slightly and I lift my head off the car door where it was resting.
“Ok mom, see you later,” I kiss her on the cheek and then got out the car. After watching my mom’s car disappear down the road, I turn and start heading toward the station. As I’m walking I pass a couple of homeless people who are sitting on the benches sleeping. I accidentally made eye contact with one who was leaning against a wall and he started making his way over to me. Now normally by this time, I’d have my earbuds in with my resting bxtch face intact so as to ward off unwanted encounters like these, but it was just my luck that I forgot them at home today.
“Hey beautiful, do you by any chance have a lighter on ya?” He smiled and it was giving all gums and no teeth vibes. He was holding a cigarette in one of those spaces where a tooth should’ve been. He looked to be in his mid-thirties with a scruffy looking beard.
“No, I don’t and quite frankly you should probably stop,” I grimaced as my nose caught his breath which reeked of tobacco.
“Listen kid, I have no home, no job, no money and all my family members are dead. Do you really think I give a damn about my health at this point?”
“That’s fair.” I excused myself and went inside the train station. It was 8:32am and the next train leaves at 8:35. I went and bought my ticket from the machine and scanned through the gate. I went on the escalator which took me to platform where I saw other college students boarding the train. It was now 8:34am and I hurried onto the train which was practically packed due to the influx of the working class and I, much to my disappointment, had to take an aisle whereas I preferred the window seat. It wasn’t all bad though because I snagged a seat next to a guy who was wearing a sweater that donned Naruto’s smiling face on it. All weebs stick together am I right? Haha...so anyway. The doors to the train closed and we were finally on our way.
