Today is an exciting day, it’s ‘take your child to work day’! But this time is different, not that it’s boring to explore the lab — but my dad promised be that I’d be able to meet my younger brothers today! In the past he’d always say things like “maybe”, or “we’ll see”, or “they’re busy with lab experiment stuff”. But this time he said that he made sure that there was time to see them! It’s been a while since I last saw them, I think I was around six? But even then, I didn’t really see them-I just saw the writer bed pods that they were sleeping in though an observable window. I hope dad doesn’t pull the same thing again, it wouldn’t be the first time he said one thing but meet another thing.
Ok, so it’s evening now. I got to see them, but not in the way that I was ... hoping. It was a scary moment. First off, it turned out that dad didn’t really mean that I was actually going to see them, just their progress and stuff, but then one of his assistants came and he had to go, so I had to wait in his office. But on the way there, I recognized the area and knew that their rooms were close by, so I headed in towards there, hoping that I could at least get a peak at them. But then an alarm went off, it was different from a fire alarm though, and people started to rush in the room I was heading to.
This is where things get creepy.
I look into the room and saw my dad and other workers surrounding this kid on the floor, he looked like my age but he was just lying there, not moving and making weird wheezing noises. I had no idea what to do, I just froze up, I had no idea what was going on but I did saw another kid. He looked like the one on the floor but he was on the bed looking down at him. Looking back, he looked so petrified and ... sad? When I saw him, I honestly thought he was the ghost of the kid on the floor but my dad had someone rush me out before I could understand what was happening. I just stood outside the room until I heard the panic die out, that’s when dad and the others walked out. Dad was mad at me for not going straight to his office like he told me too. The rest of the day, I mostly stayed there and keeps quiet. It wasn’t until the ride home when dad told me what was going on.
Apparently, the two boys I saw were my brothers and the one on the floor had underdeveloped lungs which caused him to have breathing problems. Dad and his team though they had it under control but it got worse the older he got, to the point where dad thinks they may need to “put him down”. I hope it doesn’t come to that, he barely lost it when he did that to mom.
