Prologue
Murmurs around the table circulated the room. There surrounding the table stood the beloved friends of Kyoji Yazawa and Iyona Moriyama, the biological parents of their only child who was now all alone with no one to guide her.
“I can’t believe those two went out in that big of an accident,” said Junzo, a slender man with brown hair. “It’s a shame she’s orphaned at such a young age…”
“She’s so small too,” replied the man with purple messy hair, Jei. “Who’s going to adopt her?”
Not one person in that room could reasonably take three-year-old Yuuki without risking a financial crisis. The youth of adult life had just begun for the majority of them, none of whom came as prepared as the deceased couple did. More of their friends went on to add personal reasons as the clock ticked on in the dimly lit room.
“I’ll take her in!” a frustrated young woman shouted from the back of the group. The room turned in shock to hear the voice of the younger sister of Kuga. Even to his dismay, she kept insisting.
“I’m not going to let go of her, that’s all that we have to remember them by!” she said.
But no one could understand the sincerity of that statement. Some began to object in response.
“You can’t be real about that, Rina,” Junzo replied.
“You’re not even out of high school yet!” remarked Jei.
He turned to look at Kuga who stood at her side in silence.
“Dude, are you listening to what she’s saying?” he commented.
But without another thought, Kuga responded with a stunning answer.
“I did and I won’t object to it,” he said. “If my sister believes in it, I’ll support her decision.”
Kuga turns to his sibling. A surprised face turned to a smile brightened her.
“It just means I’ll have to stop going across the prefecture to race in gymkhana. I’ve got enough to support them from a distance, but I can’t risk leaving a baby without an adult either.”
Jei stepped in with a more brash demeanor.
“You just started man, why are you throwing it away?!”
“I’ve made up my mind,” Kuga barked. “Enough said. She’s coming home with us.”
