Feeling the air rush through his lungs for the first time in what feels like an eternity, Jimmy coughs as tears come out of his eyes uncontrollably- as he sees his mother hovering over him in confusion for who was even in her living room.
Struggling to breath, Jimmy slowly lifts his wrinkled hand to his mother’s face. With a flash of his hand, and the last that he could muster, Jimmy gives
Rustily speaking, using his voice for the first time since his last breath, “I am… right here… do not… worry”.
A bright light flashes the room and all its occupants, as they begin to see images of near seconds before.
The Moore family huddled on the couch as they watched the news. Jimmy, his younger brother Paul, and his mother. America was having its biggest natural disaster to date; Yellowstone was getting ready to erupt and take potentially half the country and population with it.
The news pops up “This is an emergency announcement. We are at the site of hole 22-b, as scientists believe that can make Yellowstone inert for at least the next 1,200 years. Using new theories in science, we have discovered a new form of energy, dubbed the M-Wave. They are prepping the machine behind me now, in order to blast the lava below us in order to convert all that energy into even more M-Waves. Fingers crossed, that we can save our America.”
Jimmy asks his mother “Do you think it will work?”
“We can only hope…”
The news continues “Safety and backups all check out, and we are ready to fire in 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…”
A greenish blue wave blasts from the machine down a crater, disappearing into nothingness. All is silent. Silent.
In a sudden burst, Jimmy grasps his ears as everything is a loud rushing sound, deafening. Rolling on the floor in pain, screaming, it begins to go away as soon as it came.
Looking up at the couch, Jimmy could only see his mother and younger brother sitting there intensely at the tv.
“…” [Oww! My ears! Did you not hear that?]
Jimmy gets up and waves his hands in front of their faces. Tries to pull on them, but they do not budge- sitting there like a statue. Their clothes do not even move, frozen in place.
Noticing something is also wrong with his voice, he places his hand against his through trying to speak, and not even a subtle vibration can be felt.
Looking outside, everything Jimmy can see, seams to be stuck in the same state as him. Trying to open the front door, it does not budge- the handle will not even give way in the slightest.
Nothing opens. Not any other door, the windows or even the cabinet doors under the tv.
The tv, its frozen too. Just sitting there showing the machine over the hole in the ground.
[“What is going on?!”]
Jimmy heads back to the living room and tries more to get his younger brother and mother to move again, even in the slightest. Hours seam to pass by, as he begins to let out endless tears laying at their feet.
[“Are the even alive anymore? Will I get to hear them again?”]
Jimmy fell asleep on the ground. Waking up an unknown amount of time later, everything still seams to be frozen. The sun has not even changed position in the sky.
Having been a while, the delicious spaghetti his mother made a while ago has already been spent. Jimmy is beginning to feel hungry- but all attempts to get into any food fails.
The refrigerator door won’t budge, cabinets won’t slide open. The trashcan won’t even give a slight harvest from the past meals.
Minutes begin to feel like hours, hours into days. A classic cliché, yet it feels so real.
[“How long can I last like this? I need to eat something, or my stomach may just eat me to tide itself”]
What could be days or weeks, in a constant cycle of pulling at the refrigerator and cabinet doors to sleeping, wash-rinse-repeat.
Jimmy on the last of his energy, holding onto the fridge door, feels an odd warmth in his hand. The door, it begins to open.
Tears running down his face [“yes? Yes! YES!”]
What could be seen inside the fridge was pure darkness, but jimmy ignores this as he shoves his hand deep inside and feels what is an apple in his hand.
After several struggling yanks, the apple pops off and out, and Jimmy begins devouring it core and all.
His consciousness fades away quickly, as Jimmy passes out in front of the open door fridge.
