His family stood around the large hole in the ground, with the body of his uncle sitting snug in the expensive coffin that they had come together to pay for. His Mum holding his hand tightly as tears rolled down her face. His other relatives were also crying as to be expected at a time like this. He didn't recognize any of them however, his mother didn't get along with her parents, they despised her for being different. He had 2 mom's, his father left his biological Mother when he was only 2 years old, he said he couldn't handle having a child so he packed up and left her alone, until his mum met her wife Suzo. Suzo wasn't allowed to come to the funeral today, even though his uncle would have wanted her to because he was the only one who accepted his mum for who she was, he was like a father. However Soma wasn't crying, the shock of loosing someone was keeping the tears back.
As the last piece of dirt was placed on the grave his mum wiped her eyes and bent down next to him, "Here Soma...Uncle Kiro would have wanted you to put a flower down too" Her soft voice was calming at a time like this, she passed him a small rose, another tear escaping her eyes, she wiped her cheek and smiled gently at him,
"Go ahead", she said nudging him on the side of the arm. As he stared at the grave a tear rolled down his cheek, he wiped it of quickly, He bent down next to the grave and placed the flower gently down at the edge, He stood back up and held back onto his mums hand.
"Ryu dear long time no see" A voice called from behind them, They both turned in unison,
"Hello Mother" she smiled faintly, even though she had been pushed out of the family, by her mother especially, she still made an effort to be kind.
"Hello Soma" His grandma smiled putting her hand on his shoulder. He moved away from her grasp, he hadn't seen his Gran in 5 years and he wasn't a fan of being touched by judgmental boomers.
"Ryu honey I just came to ask when you were going to let your sister and her husband raise Soma" She managed a smile.
"Your going to bring that up here.. Really?!"
Ryu raised her voice slightly, bewildered that her mother could be so insincere.
"Ryu pull yourself together, two women CANNOT raise a child, he needs a father!", She hissed, spitting slightly in disgust.
"I can't speak to you..." Ryu turned around in frustration and started of to the car. He grasped his mother's hand gently, sensing the upset.
They got into the car. He did his seat belt up and looked at his mother, she threw her head back against the head rest and ran her fingers through her hair, She threw her head forward again and hit her hands on the steering wheel and the car let out a loud bib.
"Mum..?" he said gently. She turned her head and looked at him with a gentle smile. He could tell that it was forced, she was hurting, it was easy to tell.
"I'm okay baby.." she leaned over, pulling his head into her shoulder gently, kissing his head, "let's go see your Mum, she was worried about us coming so we should go back, we'll get a movie out hey! You pick" she smiled brightly squeezing his cheeks like some old lady, He smiled back.
"Okay Ma..." He said gently. She buckled herself in and they headed home.
After the death of his uncle 4 years ago, Ryuuji Soma has been gloomy and withdrawn from his family and friends since, usually staying shut away in his room until he had to go to school the next day. Until he meets the new transfer student, a hyperactive boy named Fujio Yuuto who just won't give up on becoming his friend, and progressively more than that, the story focuses on high school kids dealing with love and new feelings they develop.
