The Mentality

The Mentality

Sep 07, 2019

The rain wept against the window, the gloomy haze illuminating the room. It was as if the galaxy had made itself at home inside a considerably roomy bedroom. A body would move and disturb the peaceful aura just for a second. A humanoid figure moved beneath the illuminated sheets, tossing and turning constantly. Within the mind of this individual was a girl, of medium height and a short but heavy set of hair. " What is happening ?" she asked.  "Forgive me ma'am, for I know no answer that could be correct" The immense Figure responded. " Well I'd like an explanation right this moment !" She demanded. "Your rudeness will not get you anywhere Ma'am" he responded in a calming tone. Suddenly, The large man dragged his arm towards the endless void. "If you desire an answer then I suggest looking outwards to there" he said while looking forward. " B-But there is nothing there! How could you fool me when there is nothing there? do you take me for a spinach leaf?! you oaf!" she responded in a tempestuous tone. The man chuckled and flicked his index finger three times " Ma'am, I suggest that you take a look at the direction I am point to once more. You may have not seen what I intended you to see ". The girl looked once more only to see a city in the far distance "...People....there are people around here?! Why didn't I notice it before? " she thought heavily why looking at the man. " I suggest you move quickly, I may not be able to keep this position for much longer..." He said while looking at the girl with a warm expression. Without saying a word she nodded and ran towards the city. By her twelfth step the man had already began dissolving into colorful sparkly dust. She felt the dust brush her neck and immediately she shivered. " He wasn't playing, if I don't reach the city in time then I'll dissolve into dust! But how can I reach something that appears so close but is so far in distance in a short amount of time ?" Her mind slowly becoming more blank as she took more steps. Her vision began to blur but in it's place was a fuzzy feeling around her body. " What is it this?! What is happening to me ? Why am I so tired " She wondered while trying her hardest to crawl closer to the light. "Is it happening? Am I turning into dust....or am I just being tested?" She asked herself. She'd grab onto the grass, pulling herself closer to the light. As she pulled closer, the light began to become brighter. " I think I'm almost there! This warmth has to be the light...if not then I don't think I'll be able to move anymore" She mumbled to herself. Behind her beheld a Giant, it lifted her by her hair and put her closer to it's foot. It watched intensively at her various attempts to reach out of it's reach. " Why do I keep coming to this exact area. It's the same exact grass, the exact clump of pebbles" she cried in agony. The Giant snickered loudly as she pounded her head on the ground. Outside the girl's mind she had jolted forward, causing her to fully sit up in her bed. Next to her was a small puppy that was sleeping peacefully. " That snickering, what in the world- who in the world was that?..." She said while relaxing her temples. She sighed lightly and laid back into her bed. She sunk into her California King bed , her eyes halfway open. "I just want my vacation to be normal. I don't want this...." she  whispered while closing her eyes. The man stood next to her, holding an umbrella over both of them. "H-Hey! It's you! " she said in an assertive but almost excited tone. The man smiled warmly again "Ah, I see that my efforts to help you reach this city were not enough. However, I cannot blame you for you were not ready for such task. I believe this will be much more easier" he said while observing her with his peripheral vision. "What is this place? , Who are you?, Why are you making me do this?! " She asked in great concern. The man fell out of his calm expression and looked over to the girl and tilted his head slightly " I guess I forgot my manners, my name is Lilac, I am a resident of this city" he brushed his shoulder before putting out his hand to shake the girl's. " And who may you be ?" He asked. " My name is Geneva Guarda " the girl responded while shaking his hand lightly. He returned her shake with a firm but no aggressive shake. " Now to answer your questions...Hmm well for starters you are in Rompere City, one of the three biggest cities in The Viod." He said. " The Viod?...don't you mean The Void?" she said in sarcasm. " Nope, Ironically The Void is the area where no life can or will exist without being sent to one of these cities." he replied. "Okay! so answer my third question: Why are you making me do this?!" She demanded. " Well you see that's a tricky one as I wasn't the one that brought you here. You see this might sound cheesy but you were chosen among few living to be here." he said. She scrunched her nose and looking at the man " By who?!"  The Man chuckled softly " That's the part I don't know, it's unknown who sent you here by my guess is someone who died...as this is along with the other cities is where souls go to get justice through the living."  Geneva rolled her eyes " So what am I? The Hero Of Justice? Ooh Yaaayy" She said sarcastically while dazzling her hands. "In a sense...yeah you are" he said with a humble grin on his face. " You are living in a town filled with mysteries, some of them are murders and others can be as anticlimactic as someone urinating on a wall but the point I am trying to make is that you are special and someone chose you to carry out an investigation of their justice."  Geneva looked at Lilac " So why are you leading me to these places ?" Lilac placed his hands on his lap and looked at her playfully, eyes full of joy "I'm your assistant!" Suddenly she jolted awake again. "Oh for the love of all things sweet and sour!" she said in a dry tone.
