Edmund tagged his friend and took off in the other direction. Him and his friends ran around in the large open field beside their school house. He laughed as his friend tripped over her skirt, allowing him to get away.
“Can’t catch me!” Edmund yelled, laughing.
Edmund was 12 years old. He had short dirty blond hair and light brown eyes. He was average height. The boy always spoke his mind and was always bouncing. As he ran he failed to notice the other person standing in front of him. He smacked right into the girl, causing them to both fall onto the ground.
“HEY!” The girl shouted at him, quickly sitting up. Edmund paled slightly as he noticed it was Blaire Brewmen.
Blaire was also 12 and in his class. She was one of the tallest in their class and very slim. Her dark blue eyes always glared at everyone. Freckles dotted her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. The strangest thing about her was her hair. Her very long, straight white hair. She had had it since she a baby. Blaire stood up and dusted off her skirt. Even her outfit was different from the other kids. Her skirt was only a little past her knees and a dark forest green. She picked up her brown book bag and stared down at Edmund. He jumped up and looked slightly up at her. His friends stopped playing and watched from a bit away.
“Sorry about that! You should watch where you’re going you know. What’s in your bag anyway? I” Edmund began but Blaire stopped him.
“shut up!” She said and turned on her heel.
“Well that’s just rude!” Edmund spat after her. Blaire stopped in her tracks. Edmund's friends OooOooed behind him. Blaire looked slightly over her shoulder at him. She rolled her eyes.
“Oh Edmund do be decent.” She said sharply. Blaire walked over to a tree and sat down. She began to read a book. Edmund walked back to his friends, his head hanging. They laughed at him, a little too harshly.
“Oh laugh it up! If you don’t stop I’ll make her play with us!” He shouted to them, causing them to laugh more.
Blaire was a loner. She never really talked or acknowledge her classmates or anyone. Her nose was always in a book. It was always a joke in their class. If you do something wrong you would have to talk to her. To get back at someone you would threaten to get her to come over. What can I say? Kids are cruel. Edmund's friends got a look on their faces.
“Do it.” Mike said, crossing his arms. They all wore sly smiles.
“Challenge accepted.” Edmund said, copying their smile. He ran over to Blaire.
“Heyyyyyyy frienddddd!” He said, peeking behind the tree. Startled, Blaire spun around and slapped him in the legs. He screeched and fell over.
“Buzz off” Blaire said quickly. Edmund ignored her.
“Nah, come over and play with us!” He said.
He quickly stood up and grabbed her arm. He pulled her up quickly, making her drop her book. Blaire yelled at him but Edmund didn’t give up. He never backed down from a challenge. Mike and the others stared at him in bewilderment. Blaire groaned loudly, giving up. Edmund slightly pushed her over to where the other girls in his friend group were standing. They moved away.
“Ok...let’s start, Blaire? Your it” Mike said.
He tagged her arm and went running. Everyone took off. Maybe ten kids. They ran this way and that around Blaire. She whipped her head trying to look at them all. Her long hair hit another boy in the face causing him to fall. Edmund smiled as he ran. He looked at Blaire and saw her snarl fading into a frown. Her eyes were wide and she was getting red in the face. She was so overwhelmed. Blaire cover her face.
“STOP IT!” She yelled. All the kids fell down at once. It was like a wave had hit them. It all came from the same source.
The center of their circle.
Blaire.
Blaire looked just as shocked. Quickly, she ran. Grabbing her book by the tree she ran off again. Edmund watched her go, wondering what had just happened. The teacher came out and called everyone in. Edmund kept staring off to where Blaire had gone. As Blaire ran she wonder what was wrong with her.
