The sun shone upon the hazy landscape of buildings with steam curling about them. Horses pulled fancy carriages along the cobblestone streets. The whole world around seemed to fill with steam. It rose from the ground and the smoke stakes in nautical tendrils twisting first one way and then the other. Yet though the appearance of this city seemed peaceful in the dark alleyway ways and back streets there was far more to worry about. There were those who did as they pleased right or not because what they wanted to do was right in their own eyes. And there were still others who haunted these same alleyways who, though they tried to fit in with those around them, were obviously different and had to keep their heads low for fear of being found out. For if they were found the shouts of monster and murderer would sound through the streets and they would be hunted mercilessly. Which for Modeus was a situation that he now found himself trapped in.
