Driving has never been easy to learn. The old man and the young teenager were sitting at the front of the car, waiting for Valentina to start the car. The grumpy old man with an annoying smirk on his face was looking at the sixteen years old. Valentina was not moving for almost 5 minutes, staring at the belt she just put on and with shaking hands, she was touching her brown hair.
"Are you planning to drive us today or call it a day?"
"Oh yes, sorry I forgot. Can I just call my mother? I think this could..."
"Yeah, yeah make it quick. Don't forget that I am being paid from the moment we got inside the car." - the man replied.
Valentina took her phone out and after a few seconds, her mother answered.
"Valentina, I am really sorry but can't talk to you right now! Your grandma is in the hospital." and the other line went silent.
And this is when Valentina lost it. She started her car and started to drive. The old man was staring at her and started to protest.
"Hey, I am the one who should give you instructions on where to drive."
"But I am the one paying!"
"Slow down! You almost passed a red light!"
"I didn't."
"Yes, you did." - the little protests were not helping Valentina. Her heart was beating fast in fear and she was not planning to stop.
"Where are we going?"
"To the hospital."
"Hahaha, are you kidding me? Stop the car!"
"You want me to stop?"
"Yes!"
"Okay... wait, I don't know how to stop the car."
"You don't know how to what?"
"It's my first lesson what do you want from me?" - Valentina shouted, as the car was getting closer and closer to a traffic light.
"The light is about to change! Okay, listen, kid. First, take your foot off the accelerator then stamp on the brake and just keep the car straight."
Valentina did what the instructor told her. Now the car was extremely close to the light.
"Press down the clutch! NOW!" Click.
Just before the red light, the car stopped. Valentina slowly removed her belt.
"Where are you going?"
"Hospital. My grandma is not well. I am sorry." - she got out of the car and started to run.
"Hey! What about the bill? Crazy teenagers. I should have studied for an accountant."
At the time the instructor was driving away, Valentina was running and running as fast as she could. On her mind was only how much she loves her grandma and how she doesn't want to lose him as her father a month ago. Ten minutes later, Valentina finally arrived. Her sister was waiting at the reception and she had two cups of coffee in her hands.
"Valentina. Our grandma-"
"You need to tell me what happened right now Maria!"
"Grandma was driving towards the shopping centre to get her favourite newspaper, however, she lost control and hit a sign."
"What? Is she okay?"
"She is fine, she is just in a shock. She has no bruises thank God. But her car is broken"
"Who is going to drive you to the capital for your lessons now?"
"It's fine Valentina! What is important is that she is okay. Despite that how was your driving lesson? You came here quite quickly. Valentina? Where are you going?"
"Sorry Maria, I have to make a quick call."
The teenager stepped outside and called her instructor.
"Hello, I am Valentina from earlier. I am sorry my grandma had a car accident."
The other line was silent.
"Hello? Mr Ivanov?"
"I don't know what to say. I guess bad driving runs in the family."
Valentina is the oldest sister in her family. After her father mysteriously passes away, she is the one who needs to make a choice. Should she quit school and start working, so her 14 years old sister can play professional gymnastics? Will Valentina be able to work it out by herself?
